Fingers crossed that headlight and the LED blinkers are retrofittable

looks like an extra oxygen sensor toward the end of the cat on the rhs.
also those pipes top and bottom of the inlet manifold, could they be air injection, although this is usually piped into exhaust manifold?
I bet the twin mufflers are also for reduced noise.
Im pleased they have euro 5 the rninet it means a lot more years of support, spares and aftermarket upgrades

Agreed on the headlight! I've looked at aftermarket LED headlights but wasn't too crazy on the design. And I didn't want to lose the little BMW symbol in the OEM one. It's the little details that I love on this bike!

The cat looks a little larger to me, but I could just be seeing things. As hocks mentioned, there's an additional post-cat O2 sensor. Intake manifold looks pretty heavily reworked.
Oh.. we will grow old with R ninet... seems forever..

Great. I was really thinking that euro 5 was it for this motor. Knowing my luck it'll have more power, better suspension, cost less and come with a voucher for $10,000- of 719 accessories 🤣. I always pull the trigger on stuff at just the right time haha. I'm happy in any case though to be honest. On the plus side, if anything happens to mine I know i can buy a new one again.

Well I am surprised they’ve managed to comply with Euro 5 legislation. Pleased, but surprised. BMW obviously believe in the future sales potential of the Rninet. A translation I’ve read on another forum mentions, apart from the obvious lighting changes, a new ignition system, no doubt to facilitate cleaner burn engine.

The headlight looks like it comes from the new R18 cruiser...wonder if this can be retrofitted already (might ask dealer next time I pop in)? Might require a CANBUS canceller given LED will draw different power from traditional headlight bulbs.

Just bought my Euro 4 Urban GS, not sure I'm 'so' happy... however, I'm probably a bit alone here by saying I like more the traditional headlight for the UGS?

Two months ago i bought my brand new Classic as well @Alligator ...

Why you are not happy ? I am not into the design of the new headlight as well...

I haven't seen one in person yet but the one "we" are wearing right now i much more nicer looking considering the overall design of the bike.

Maybe up close and personal i will change my mind, from the photos ... ? Not interested.

The signal lights ? A big no for me. The current led i am wearing are simple, edgy and minimalistic. I like them.

My only concern is that if they are making any changes in the engine, horsepower wise.

Not that i am lacking power but... that's something major if the go that way.

Any information about that anyone?

Hi @Error Flynn, my only concern is the EU5 regulation. Our mayor in Rome is quite picky and tends to restrict circulation, only allowing vehicles running on the latest possible (with some exceptions up to now), so my fear is that sooner than I expected I might have some restrictions circulating in the city.

Hey @Alligator,

i understand what you mean now but i find it impossible just like that to restrict you in that way... especially with such a up to date and new motorcycle.

I wouldn't be so concerned if i was in your position i think... Anyway.

Sorry for the "irrelevant" post guys.
@Error Flynn - I also bought my new classic two months ago and it's been basically parked up for 6 weeks of that due to COVID lockdown in Melbourne. I too may be a tiny little bit annoyed if there is a significant enhancement to power output or the suspension. But only a tiny bit really - I hope.
It may be a prototype, but I don't see the charcoal canister

P.S: Don't you have enough of the more than 100+ HorsePower? I'm pretty ok with it, I can expect they may have added 4-5 ? Never stressed my bike that much ;-)

This is exactly what happens in Milan and in the whole Lombardy region! I have a 2014 Euro 3 and it won't be allowed to enter in Milan (Area B) starting October 2028 but I really don't care because it will be 14 years old and once it will be 20 years old I will apply for the historical registration (CRS) and use it with no limits until its natural end. Outside Milan resctrictions will apply mostly on winter months so it's not a real problem.

I thought a lot about it and I have no plans to trash money to update to Euro 4, Euro 5, Euro 6.... They want you to spend a lot of money trading in the old bike to only get 3 new years of "allowed use" each time you step up the Euro number. I'm having my tubes removed and my wheels sealed and next I'm going to update my suspensions to full Ohlins. In the future I could consider the idea to add another bike next to nineT but it should be a totally different bike with better performance, not the same bike with less performance because of the new regulations.

In the end, over here, we'll be allowed to drive only electric bikes or historical bikes.

It is very unlikey the same engine under EU5 regulations will have more power than the EU3 or EU4 versions. It could be if they increase its size (as they did with the R18) or if they switch to liquid cooling (no way on the nineT). If you ride an EU4 after an EU3 nineT you'll feel the EU4 lacks something compared to the EU3. Not too much or something you'd worry about, but you feel the EU3 engine is better, more "ready", especially at low rpm. The same will be for the EU5.

On moto.it they say there is the possibility that the modifications they did to the EU5 engine lowered its noise. But it's too early to say, we can only make guesses...

@Nico9T , yes i totally agree with every word you said about regulation, restrictions etc.

That was my point so show our friend @Alligator that for the time being and for many of the next years he has nothing to afraid as i already assumed.

I had no idea that in order to keep with the regulations the engine seems a little more "toned down" to the previous models.

Believe me my friend, for me, a person who was riding for 15 years a K 1200 R with 163 hp before going to an R Nine T never cared for such a significant difference in power
otherwise i would have chosen and stayed with a more close to the K series bike.

But on the same series of bikes deciding out of the blue adding more power i would have found it a little disrespectful for the people who have bought it already.

The aesthetically additions ? Lights etc... always welcome, always good to have the ability to chose from various things. If they are retrofitting which i believe they will...

@Alligator I completely agree the HP of the 9T is fine and almost better that it isn't too high - you can use all of it on the road and that is satisfying. However, if when buying the bike it came with a free option for 10% more power - I don't think I could choose not to take the extra 10% - even if it doesn't need it :)

Hopefully it's just matter of headlight wire harness and headlight.
