@Nico9T , yes i totally agree with every word you said about regulation, restrictions etc.
Believe me my friend, for me, a person who was riding for 15 years a K 1200 R with 163 hp before going to an R Nine T never cared for such a significant difference in power
otherwise i would have chosen and stayed with a more close to the K series bike.
e.f.
I totally agree with you. My previous bike was a Yamaha R6. I loved it but the only thing I really miss are its handling and its weight, not its power wich was available only at high rpm. You always had to drive it outside town as you would do on a racetrack to really enjoy it. Crappy at low rpm, uncomfortable inside a city, extremely dangerous when ridden as it was tought to be ridden but outside a racetrack. To enjoy it on streets you had to take too much risks.

The nineT has less power and much more weight but on streets it is much more enjoyable! You always have enough power when you open the gas, no matter the gear. I believe it has the right amount of power you can really enjoy on streets... even if you drive well above the legal limits. Engine is perfect for the bike, the only thing I don't like of it is it is noisy.

Having just bought a new R9T - my thoughts are as follows. Good to see further evolution of the RNineT model and not falling sales and model deletion. Concern that further Euro-smog compliance will result in additional technical complexity, less performance, unproven benefits/reliability and increased costs. So I'm hoping BMW do a thorough R&D programme and focus on reliability - and avoid using customers as unpaid 'test pilots'. It will be interesting to learn how many more years new petrol engine powered bikes are going to be around for?

Since the Classic OE shock is so crappy I always thought all the nineT models had the preload knob.... Missing it is a pain in the neck if you often use the bike in two. It is the reason I'm saying no to the Ohlins BM 490. I thought it was different from the BM 440 only in color but I found it has no hydraulic preload adjustment. It would be a nice add if they put the preload knob on the scrambler and the pure.
