I don't think they will be practical for the Canadian weather knowing when it snows we stop riding!
Yeah I have family there and when I paid them a visit in late november there was absolutely no way you would be able to ride. either its way to cold or just too much **** salt on the ground.

As for grips you can always get aftermarket ones. But if its that cold it just makes me think of how the tires are taking the cold. *cough poor traction!

Here in Los Angeles, the temperature swings rather wildly during the course of a single day.
It's 54 degrees when you leave the house in the morning. When you go to lunch at 1pm it's 84 and your sweating. Work an hour or so late, and it's cold again ( by west coast standards anyway...) it's 55 degrees.

So the heated grips for me are a must. My 98 R1100RT doesn't have them, my 2007 F800S does, and good grief is it sweet coming home in 45/50 degree nights with the heaters on.

I'm starting to think heated grips are a good idea. I have a short commute to work, so I tend to ride as late in the season as I can. I work night shift and I am always headed home just before sunrise and it is cold. The last day I rode this season it was 28 F on the way home. Let's hope the price of the bike in the US is low enough so I can afford the grips.

54 degrees? That's t-shirt weather

Hi Maverick, Yes, I ride year round. Sometimes I have not been able to afford a car and ride year round rain shine heat cold, even snow. I've been lucky and not gone down. But I have an early nineties truck now so will drive it during nasty weather. I kind of like riding in nasty weather though. It makes me feel alive when I'm miserable. I might keep this Nine T under cover though. I'd hate to make a mess of it or crash it. I can't afford another one.

Do you like to ride in inclement weather?

I do as well. When I was a kid, I was always riding my bike in the rain and bad weather.

I never really grew up :D, but once I got to be 20 something I found myself riding my motorcycle in the rain to work. People, would ask me, "don't you have a car?"
I'd say "yup. What's your point?"

As I mentioned several times, I don't like heated grips, because they do not heat where I need it. I've switched to heated gloves... to be more precise: heated inner gloves !
In my opinion much more effective and much cheaper... recommendable

The link below is just one example for heated gloves if you don't already have good winter gloves.
there are several companies that provides stuff like this. This is the only one I found (fast) with an english website.
Price in Germany ~250 Euros.
Don't buy cheap, you will buy twice...
Heat-Tec - SNOWLIFE

if you already have good (goretex-)winter gloves, than perhaps these innergloves, like I have are good enough
Price 50 Euros

Thanks, Gerry. My old gloves weren't bad, but they are almost as old as my last bike. It's time for an upgrade.
