I wonder if I'm the only person that is fussy about this but I'm not sure that when we talk about 'modding' ones bike, does buying stick on parts from the rizoma etc catologue really count?

I see a lot of posts on this forum about this and that 'build' but I don't see anything that is actually modified or built, just the removal and stick on of parts.

Just me worrying about this? Thought so... :)

A General Manager of a Powersports dealer mentioned to me many years ago most folks don’t “mod” their bikes. They “personalized” them which in his opinion lowers the value of the bike during trade in. What you or I may like may discourage a potential buyer.

So, taking a snorkel and painting it black. That's modding? And buying a new Carbon fiber snorkel and mounting it is sticking on parts?

In my opninion, any part u modify/stick on that is not stock = modding. You are modifying an original bike.

Imho, mods = upgrades suspensions, brakes, master cylinders, wheels, fairings that are to your likings and not from catalogue. (My bike 😅)

That’s why I never considered myself a “builder” or my bike “build” because I never made the parts myself.
And for sure I won’t call wheels stickers “tastefully modded”

I don't think too deeply about this to be honest. Yes I tell my insurance company that I've modified my bike as by their interpretation I have, and I wouldn't potentially want to have a claim declined or insurance to be voided. It's a fun discussion to have but the answer is always going to be highly subjective. For the purposes of this forum I guess anything that strays from the standard specification is a modification of sorts, be they mild or more complex or adventurous. I'm just happy to see what riders do to their bikes...

Simple: originally from Latin, nowadays still used in Italy:
Font Parallel Screenshot Number Rectangle

Can be used as a verb or noun: I pimp, you pimp, pimp my ride, we all are pimps! Right?

Except the builders.
That would be @BlitzSchnell, @NateE , @Chopper_Bob the builder, and a few others here.

For me, a mod is something you make yourself. My urban GS has upgrades and add ons, but kinda insulting to my real projects if I call them "mods"

PERSONALISED!!! That is the bottom line and the CORRECT wording for what most of us do to our ARE 9 Tee's. That is my personal opinion and hold no one to it!!! If you want to go out and blow a bunch of bucks and time to install a bunch of aftermarket stuff that may actually reduce the resale value of you initial purchase then have at it. You can call it what you want and if you decide to sell later you can explain the changes, unpersonalize it or take the hit on what you spent in trinkets. Unfortunately the word "FARKLE" reminds me of "Blazining Saddles and Mongo", sorry BALOO had to toss it in there and this. I have four (4) Are Nine Tees and each one has some element of "PERSONALIZATION" all of them took time and $$$ to implement, I like to see them, hear them and feel them so I think it just begs me to hold on to them and the bike for as long as I can. I will let my estate figure this crap out, I'm busy enjoying spending, changing, restoring, fixing, maintaining and personalizing my 30 plus BMW's. Having said that I will share, call it what you want, you did it! OH and I have to mention that I have stopped all other projects and have fully FULLY! invested in a very special project of BMW racing heritage. There is NO BUDGET! I will drop some pictures and progress here and there but will leave it up to those interested to identify the replica being developed and assembled. It is not a mod or a personalized bike, instead its a replica of a significant part of BMW racing history. Did I steal this thread?
