Listen to this guys, hard to believe. As we still have eveningpost I found a letter from our country BMWheadquarters in Bornem. I'll try to translate as good as I can, hope not to many things get lost in translation. Here it goes:
Dear Mr. Huppeldepup,
Concerned: your order nr. xxxxxxxx
in order to avoid a possible one month delay, due to an unforeseen technical / safety issue, BMW management has decided to concede as follows: as there were a delivery date commitment ( hence the ordering system ) , the RnineT will be delivered with alloy rims for the time needed in order to solve the problem with our supplier.
The customer has the choice a/ keep the alloy rims b/ in consultation with your local dealer to give a repeat order on spoked rims.
We appologise for the situation, may we count on your understanding concerning our safety first attitude. Please contact your dealership for further info and/or questions, kind blablabla...
Irony, I don't want alloy and will get it (for a while anyway) and the ones not in the system yet will not have this choice?:eek:

:eek:I will be contacting my dealer tomorrow to find out if this will be applicable to myself, as I haven't received any notification on this drama yet
It may suit some of the lucky people who have ordered early, and had a confirmation number and who have complained on the spoked issue ,but a delay on bike delivery
Please keep us all informed Tracteur of any new news on this saga ,I'm just glad they've got an offer sorted already for early birds ,but I'm still getting on the blower first thing to see what's officially gone wrong and check my options
Why is it with new bikes from BMW there always seems to be a glitch:rolleyes:

one really has to wonder this is a poorly veiled attempt by BMW to back out of offering inferior rims without admitting that's what they are doing.

maybe I have watched too many crime shows on television:p

if this is true I'd be anxious to see exactly what this style of the alloy wheels they are considering offering is.

Those aren't the R12 wheels shown on the BMW site. I like the ones you like better than the new ones. It seemed a little strange that they were touting this bike as being modular, easy to customize, yet offering NO options for wheels, one of the most expensive things to change. Obviously, everyone doesn't want the same wheels, to the extent of refusing to buy if they aren't offered the wheels they want, wires or alloy, tubes or tubeless.

I just like the bike - no - I fell in LOVE with it, it speaks to me, creates longing in my heart and gives me butterflies whenever I see it ..... never really worried about which wheels it'll come with. Whatever they put on will be good stuff ...
L O V E I T !!!!

absolutely love it - gotta have it

IMPULSE buying - the ONLY way ! :D

Got to agree with the strange lack of wheel choice and its disparity with the rest of the bike's marketing angle. Rims or spokes would work for me, but having a choice should not be a big deal for BMW given the number of shared parts with other models. WHat if I wanted the brushed aluminum rims on the R1200R Classic's spokes, for example, instead of the black rims?

I agree NSX, the new wheels resemble a K1300s wheel! Not exactly My choice for the nine T, but I guess We'll have to wait and see.:)

Money. My dealer said it had wheels that require tubes and forks with no damping adjustments to reduce costs. I would happily pay more for the good stuff, but I guess just offering the option would cost them. Doesn't make sense to me. Just adjust the price.

Bmw reply

I have been contacted today by BMW MOTORRAD DIRECT to do with this issue of delay through safety set back .
I contacted them direct to check the issue of the spoked wheel / alloy option to early customers and they can't comment ,as my details have been passed onto BMW MOTORRAD UK as my purchase is through them in England via my local dealership, and have been told they will be in contact with me soon to discuss an option :)
So I will have to wait for their response in this matter

BMW Motorrad Direct reply to my email complaining about the tubes this way:

"In the development phase of each model the design of the wheels is regarded according to the requirements and target variables. For the BMW R nineT special spoke wheels have been developed that emphasize the classic character of the bike and meet all requirements specified in the vehicle package. In this context we do not see any safety concerns with the use of conventional spoke wheels.

Punctures are extremely rare and almost all other motorcycles with spoke wheels also have tube tires. Beyond this many bikes back in the 70s and 80s already had a top speed over 200 km/h as tube type wheels and tires were much more widespread.

Sudden blowouts are as good as excluded if you stick to the known rules for tube type tires.

Kind Regards,

BMW Motorrad Direct"

I understand by this email there are no options at least for me
