Hi from downunder (Australia). Got to say I am a huge fan of the oil/air cooled horizontal twin engine. Over the years I have owned a 1980 R100RS, a 1998 R850R, a 1999 R1100S, a 2002 R1100S, a 2010 R1200RT (still owned) and a 2011 R1200R (still owned). I have owned a number of Harley Davidson motorcycles which were somewhat enjoyable, but must say I missed the engineering of BMW. There is something fairly amazing about boxer twins and their ability to cover distance with a minimum of fatigue.

The Nine T ticks all the boxers as a bespoked motorcycle, up until yesterday I had my name down for a Norton, once I saw the images of the Nine T I knew I had to have one.

Now it is a matter of waiting for delivery...................yours frustratingly

Hello - My domain is Boulder, Colorado. Living at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains I am blessed with hundreds of miles of perfect sporting motorcycle roads. We are also gifted with even more miles of off-road, adventure riding. I have been waiting, in vain, for Moto Guzzi to introduce something to replace my 2008 1200 Sport. Something exactly in-line with the new BMW nineT. I have every hope of securing a nineT by next spring.

Just joined today. Completed an ABATE (MSF) course a few weeks ago, to brush up on riding, not having ridden in over 30 years. Old bikes I had, Honda 305 Scrambler, '64 Bonneville, and BMW R69s. LONG ago. Was planning on buying a 2014 Bonneville to get back into leisure riding, then I saw the R Nine T. Our dealer had 2 allocated, and today I put the deposit down on the 2nd one. Pretty expensive, and advanced bike for my first in over 30 years. Just know, over the next year or two, I would still be desiring one, so popped for the deposit. Now, I just have to remind myself to stay off the throttle while getting used to such an awesome bike.

I had it boiled down to two. 2014 Bonneville, due to its low center of gravity and 17 inch wheels, and a Ducati Monster. Problem with the monster, it didn't fit me right. First hard bump on the road, and I would be singing soprano from the tank in front of the seat. I really do like the Bonneville, with its retro looks, and the fact I won't be riding from Indiana to Montana any time soon. However, I've always been a BMW fan, but their newer bikes are either too tall, too dressed, or too racy looking. (and I've always been a boxer fan). When I saw the T, I chewed it over in my mind for a bit, knew they were only getting allocated two, and decided that was the one. I could buy 2 bonnies for the price of one T. If I didn't get one now, I knew I would later. Have they actually posted a price yet? The dealer said he believes the MSRP is going to be between $16,000 and $17,000. One downside I see with the T? Massive electronics, costly repairs. But the ABS and a hundred other things swung me over. BTW, I have owned BMW cars since 1969, and thats the same complaint I have on the newer cars. At least the T doesn't have iDrive :)

If the nineT hadn't come along, I would probably still be thinking about the Norton too (but the cost and distribution in the U.S. is a bit deterring).

Fell in love with Nortons when I lived in Oz back in the late 60s, early seventies. Had a chance to buy a beautifully restored 850 Commando in Alaska back in 1990, and even though it was an incredible bargain ($3000 USD) it would have taken every last cent of my savings account to do it at the time.

Worse yet, the wife had given me the green light to buy it (God, I love that woman).

I kick myself in the ass every time I think about that lost opportunity.

my user name is pistonbroke .
due to breaking all my earlier rubbish in previous years.
on forum ill just use name rc
been riding bikes all my life from 12 years ,from the honda c50 i first rode, just reach floor then.tip toes.
then got a job a stacking shelves in a shop ,bought a bultaco pursang 350.14 years old
wonder i am still here , it was nuts.few broke bones on that one .
over the years have owned many bikes .its a silly number .
ride every day for the last 15 years, like most sports bikes out there.
for work i use a ktm superduke ,which will go soon for the 9t sadly can't keep as well.
no room in garage .
think the 9t will be a great bike.
used the bmw gs,s for last 5 years ,had a couple of models and they have been great.
used a 1200r for 6 months when i had a hip replacement, lower seat height ,sold once i could get back on gs , another bike on tip toes , really enjoyed thrashing the 1200 r.
fantastic bike overall ,better than a gs in several ways .
so now going to buy the 9t, deposit put down to ensure i get one ,now the dreaded wait.
i hope to come on the forum quite often when i have a spare moment.
cheers r

can't wait

Hi everyone,
I proudly ordered my nineT on last Saturday and can't wait until March.
Actually I'm a super sports rider but the nineT easily convinced me to own one.
I'm very happy about my decision and I'm counting the days.

Cheers,
Ammour

Welcome to the forum. I, too, cannot imagine myself owning a bike like this until seeing what a beautiful one BMW created for us. I cannot wait until mine arrives in just a few months. I suppose you will get yours first and I can't wait to hear what your impressions are. Please promise to be an active member here.
