It’s been a while since posting but thought I would share.
Bought my RNineT is 2015 and have covered 22k miles so far. It’s still in my possession.
Just taken delivery of a 2023 RNineT and just turned the key not a few hours ago. Immediately didn’t like the feel of the new throttle and the sound is just terrible. Bike feels very sanitised compared to my old trusty.
Took a short spin and is nowhere near as engaging or agricultural as the older bike which was a lot of the charm.
It’s not that my old bike has suffered or deteriorated over the years as it felt this way from new and the bike is still standard

Now what to do. Double down and get an exhaust (easier said than down in the new Euro 5 bikes apparently) or live with it and see what happens? I already know how much less of a bike it feels than the older one so I don’t think it will get better without some serious intervention. And the lack of feel through the throttle! What’s that all about

Interesting. I wonder whether we have more people in the forum who had a chance to notice that. (Most here probably only own one, and “that’s the one”, you know) I had similar experiences with recent generations of the same car.

Euro 5 is a b*tch, not too much the manufacturers can do if they want to comply and therefore be legal - and sell their product. The noise levels have a tight limit (also different jurisdictions in Europe have started to rule that bikes over 95db are now just illegal on their roads, see Tyrol in Austria), and the emission limits are also challenging for the engineers. That’s why for a long time it was unclear whether BMW would even be able to come up with an upgraded nineT version that’s Euro5 compliant. It took them quite a while to figure this out. (But they did, and only lost 1 hp…)

But ateotd still probably better than an electric bike, right? ‘Cause in the long run, it looks like that’s our future, unfortunately.

Disconnect the cables from the exhaust flap, and try Dynamic mode.

After that, just ride it - throttle by wire will always feel slightly different to a cable throttle, if only because the weight is different because there's no cable to pull. If you still don't like it after you've given it a fair chance, then you have your answer! Both have their advantages, I have owned both and personally prefer the Euro5 (feels similar to how my Euro3 did with a quick throttle cam IMO).

Sounds obvious, but couldn't you have test ridden the new one before purchasing? I've only ridden the Euro 5 model. I keep mine in Dyna Mode. When I twist the throttle things start to happen pretty fast. Must agree on the sound though. I've got Akrapovic cans on (they came as standard). It's ok ish. But muted. They must be the quietest Akras going! I could fiddle about. Delete this, take that off, etc. I thought the Triumph street triple R I had was a superb bike. But the 9T even in Euro 5 guise is fantastic! Maybe a tad heavy. Then. So am I.

Test ride wasn’t an option unfortunately as it is the 100 years edition and I (wrongly) thought that it couldn’t be that different from my old one. Other than all the spangly bits. I put my money down the day it was released so I guess excitement took over. I do wish I had just went to the dealer and blipped the throttle. This might have been all I needed to do to put my wallet away

Hello, I have two bikes a 2017 R9T Racer and a 2022 R1250GS, very different bikes, lets say the GS is the perfect bike, all the electronics, etc and I enjoy that about that bike but when in the racer I also enjoy the lack of technology and the roughest. What I’m trying to say is that you have two girls with different personalities, enjoy them 😉😁

You just explained the plight of middle-aged men all over the world. You have this trusty bike that rides great and still looks good, but maybe a little extra pudge around the middle, a little grayer, and then a younger hotter model walks by, I mean is there at the showroom, and all of a sudden we have this sudden urge to get rid of all our hard earned money to impress the coed, I mean get the new and shinier motorcycle, only to find out that the one we started with was so much better to begin with. Mid life crisis can be rough.

All very valid points and cannot disagree with any. Looks like I’ll start of with an end can and see if that brings the smiles back. Nothing offensive just a low tone and some pops and crackles on the downshift. Any recommendations for a bike of this vintage?

Did you install the titanium system? I crushed a header on one side when I fell off in some sand. I'll have to replace the header at a minimum and am exploring options.

Newer bikes always run leaner to reduce emissions. As a result throttle response throttle responses and the like can be jerky especially low down and when coming off idle. Don't know if they do them (?) but something like a Dyno Jet Power Commander and some rolling road tuning could add some fuel where needed to make it better.

Why would you choose a power commander over just programming the ECU directly? Costs will be cheaper, more effective and aren’t a total kluge with a piggyback poorly attached to a bike.

Totally agree. Why add bits when you can make the ECU do it all ?

Re the lack of feel or response at the throttle, I'm confident that will fade as the engine loosens up, these boxers take a lot of miles to loosen 10,000miles is not an exaggeration by any means.:cool:

Now this is not a criticism or anything like you should do this or that. But you have just got a limited numbers bike. I believe somewhere north of 18 big ones. This will be sort after. Can't see you losing on it. Why fiddle about with it? Sunny days and shows. I don't think we'll many on the road. Enjoy it

To be fair when I bought my 2015 it was still considered to be a limited numbers bike.

Not that I bought it for that. Just love the look and once ridden was easily the most enjoyable bike I’ve ridden in over 35 years riding. Still have a fireBlade for playtime but even it got less and less attention once my 2015 R9t came along. Bought that in 05. Also I buy bikes to ride as I don’t believe these things appreciate but your right, if I don’t gel with it I can always move it on without too much pain.
