Windscreen or no windscreen?

Hey all,

Need your opinion. I have a 2021, and I'm trying to figure out if I love the OEM windscreen or not. I keep going back and forth: some days I love it, but other days I feel like it's gimmicky. Aside from keeping bugs off the instrument clusters, I don't feel like it does much in terms of blocking wind. If anything, I feel like it puts more wind in my face (I'm pretty short at 5'5"). Pics attached. Thoughts?

Nice. Are those cylinder head covers stock? If not, where'd you get them?
Thanks — the head covers were a factory option, same with the breastplate, etc.
Just added the Puig New Generation Retrovision screen and I think it completes the bike — YMMV

Does that screen use handlebar mounts?
I have a phone holder on the handlebar and am thinking that it will get crowded with the screen mounts, plus I have risers - what do you think?
(my handlebars are stock)
It does not use handlebar mounts, it mounts onto the top triple

Please at your convenience, can you post a pic of the top triple mount?
I have "Ohlinized" the suspension of my Pure and am hoping that this does not interfere with the mounts (the Puig web site doesn't exactly show this part).
Thanks, Matt.
(once upon a time, I did not see the functional value of a 'screen, but so many have added one and your bike looks cool with one!)

Thank you Matt!
Order for the Puig screen placed and shortly I will be joining the ranks of screened riders

Question for anyone that has an answer ........
The two (one on each side) bolts in the upper triple clamp are torque'd to 19 N/m, is that correct?
Any special precautions to take while opening and re-fastening those bolts?
Will it be better to "blue" the threads before tightening again?
Thanks!
Purpose of a 'wind screen' is indeed to screen wind. And the same logic would say that a 'fly screen' is to screen flys. Which is exactly what these little shields do very well. It's certainly an aesthetic, so you can simply like, or don't like, on that alone. But I kept my Dart because I like the looks and for reasons others have already mentioned, to keep bugs out of the instruments and the innards. I like yours, and I vote to keep.

I cleaned my bars up with a ram mount ball in the handlebar clamps.
I like the clean air and the protection of the back of the instrument cluster that those little fly screens give. Funny I’m reading this because I just Switched to the summer fly screen on my 2014 GS adventure.

I like it. Lots of good commentary and analysis here but it comes down to how you feel about the look- it's minimally functional but it gives your bike a different and (to me) pretty cool look. I have a somewhat somewhat bigger dark perspex screen and I love it, it individualises the bike and it does protect the clocks.
I can’t get tempted by screens, myself. Never had a screen I liked. A bug collection device that does very little unless one lays on the tank.
I like the windscreen ! Leave it alone. I have a 2020 nine T which is true to its name- Pure.
Your bike looks better with it on than off.
Did I see a crash bar ?
Another vote FOR the windscreen – it's slightly functional and balances out the bike visually.

Those of you opting for the Puig Retrovision screen [as in post #25] the points of attachment and torque values are :
143691
143692

The points of attachment are courtesy of Matt's post [post# 25] and the [limited description] Puig instructions.
In Canada the Puig screen lists for approx CAD $170.00.
The Puig installation instructions are attached to this post

Very good looking screen (and bike of course), can you please post a link from where you got it?

On google i keep on finding the older version. This one is much better looking i believe.

Also, what about performance?

thanks.

e.f.
I got mine from Louis.de but they also sell them direct from Puig: Retrovision – Puig Deutschland

In terms of performance, I don’t really know yet because I’ve not gotten out on the autobahn, just been riding around berlin. I will report back once I know more.

My two cents ......
The assembly and fitting of the Puig New Generation Retrovision screen takes 30 minutes or less.
At speed, the Puig stays where it is put and the screen has no effect on the handling of the bike.
If you are looking for wind protection, then look elsewhere - at low speeds there is none and at high speeds, barely some. The "good" is that there is no helmet turbulence.
Appearance-wise (to me), it completes the "look" of the bike.
The carbon-fibre finish matches that of the side covers and hugger and it complements the "grey" of the tank.

I am keeping it on!
I like the windscreen, but then if I could just bolt on the Racer fairing I would. A lot easier to clean Cicadas off a windscreen than the back of the gauges. I also tend to go a bit faster from time to time and it makes a big difference in a tuck.
