Windscreen or no windscreen?

Hey all,

Need your opinion. I have a 2021, and I'm trying to figure out if I love the OEM windscreen or not. I keep going back and forth: some days I love it, but other days I feel like it's gimmicky. Aside from keeping bugs off the instrument clusters, I don't feel like it does much in terms of blocking wind. If anything, I feel like it puts more wind in my face (I'm pretty short at 5'5"). Pics attached. Thoughts?

I prefer the Rizoma just for the looks. Won't do much for wind.
I'd definitely keep it like most others have said. If anything it helps keep bugs from getting wedged in, and if rocks are kicked up from other vehicles, it will protect your gauges.

I had the Puig on my Bandit and thought it was a good product. It deflected the wind to the top of my helmet well and kept my teeth bug-free. Good stuff.

Tough one, I’m on the fence but I lean towards leaving it on.
What do folks think of this Madstad?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, but this looks like it would work well because of its adjustability. Plus you can remove the screen quickly while the mounting bracket stays on. Thoughts?
I have the unit garage one

I deleted the headlight fairing on my UGS and added a Puig touring windshield. Protects my (one) instrument from bugs, and protects me from them too. Before that, every ride I needed to clean dead bugs off of my helmet. Now I get hardly any. Also no wind pressure on my chest and face.

I ordered this just waiting for it to come in. I love the fact it can be quickly removed. As I don't want/need it on around-town rides.

I’m not a fan of windscreens but this looks great for those 3k weeks on the Interstate.
I would keep it. I think it suits the style of the bike. And, as you mention and most important, it keeps the bugs out.
Great looking bike!
It’s “A” look. Bug screen ? I guess it’s a matter of where you live. If you’re near a lot of water and a lot of flying bugs then perhaps you can argue “bugs” are an issue, otherwise it’s just a look, a style or perhaps someplace for a decal or race number plaque. Aerodynamic value ?, …..sure if you spend all your time over 100mph, lower speeds, naaaa! You may argue it keeps the bugs off of the instruments, sure! But what about the rest of the bike …. You’re going to have to wipe and wash it down anyway, you think keeping the instruments clean is going to save you that much time ? It’s a look, you like it or you don’t. Calling it a wind screen is a bit of mislabeling. It’s a BugScreen or it’s a WindShield … THEN you have to add to the mix your expectations on the performance of said deflector. But again I say the unit you are discussing is for a look and in reality serves little protection for the bike or rider. In which case your expectations and the “look” are all that matters. Have fun going back and forth … What, four screws ? Enjoy ………………………….. Blitz

Warning: digression ahead. Reminds me when I lived in Biloxi and was riding during “love bug” season. 5 miles in and lost all of my visability.

Early in this thread I posted that I'd installed the short Rizoma aluminum screen, which looked great. But I later replaced that with a Dart Classic Flyscreen, which I think looks fine. It takes the wind blast off my chest at 60+ mph, which is very welcome when I have to be on the freeway for an hour or more at a time.

Some people are going to reject windscreens of any kind on a retro/modern bike like this just based on aesthetics alone, but for me a smallish screen that blocks some wind and bug guts is worth any trade-off in the looks department.

All depending on your size. With my 192 cm the OEM screen on the Urban is useless and gave me more stormy wind right around the head - so removed.
And because the probably useful bigger clear shields will melt the odometer I'm running "naked" 😆 .

I’m still working on the idea of a quick release LargWindShield that can be attached and removed in seconds. It won’t be an aftermarket add on … it will be scratch built from 1/4” thick Lexan. Completely attached to the forks not the handlebars at all. It will take a solid rock hit at 100 and not break the plexi-glass … and be obnoxiously large for highway travel in excess of 80mph and keep me un-buffeted sitting comfortably straight up in the saddle. I achieved that once with an addition of a wind wing (see pict) but it takes me 15/20 minutes to put it on or take it off and actually it should be a bit bigger too…… I want the screen to go on and off in 15 seconds, not 15 minutes. It’s just for high speed sustained travels …… when I reach somewhere I want to explore I’ll leave it in the hotel / motel and go sports bike. Best of both worlds …. I’m trying to fabricate brackets that are made from a 3D printer instead of milled from an aluminum billet that go around the front forks securely but strength here is critical. They CANNOT break … especially at speed. I’ll keep anyone interested and posted on “my exhaust pipe and bobber build” thread… what ever developes. CheersMates …………………………………………. Blitz
