I absolutely loathed the tkc80's that came on my bike. In the dry they were fine but on wet tarmac they were a liability in my opinion. The rear was stepping out frequently and they locked on the mildest rear braking on anything other than bone dry roads.
I've found the Mitas E07 to be a fantastic rear and works well with the tkc80 on the front. I do have a Mitas for the front but will put it on only after the Bridgestone wears.

I don't seem to have those issues at all, weird.... might be a tyre pressure thing?

Be careful mixing them, the TKC80 is a Bias ply tyre, pretty odd these days most everything else is radial, which may cause weird handling....
 
The 80s are also dual sport tires. Just more like 50/50. They handle predictably and stick far better than you’d expect. But they’re noisy and can wear quickly.

I’m looking at the Dunlop Trailmax Mission. They’re not the cheapest, but they appear to be the unicorn.
I just ordered the "unicorns" for my Urban this weekend. For some reason they were on promo at $330 CDN ($250USD) at the Motorcycle show so I couldn't say no.
Dunlop also has a promo to pay $40-$60 of the install price so.... wish me luck once the 3 feet of snow clears. :)

I've got the unicorns in the back closet staying warm for the first really warm day to sun warm them up to application temp. Hand spooning them on so wondering how hard they will be. Heidenau's were tough side walls as the Mission tires are so we will see.
 
When I picked up my new to me UGS it had a TKC 80 on the front and a newer tire on the rear (can't remember. Maybe the Metzler trailblazer?). I found the TKC 80 rather noisey, prone to vibration and just not planted. I switched it out to the TKC 70 and couldn't be happier. It's a totally different feel. I'll be going with the same on the rear when it's time to change it.

The TKC 70 has served me well on pavement, gravel and light mud/water.

Sounds like you got a good deal at the motorcycle Show and I hope the Dunlop's work well for you! Post pictures please!
 
I've been running the 70s on my 18 Urban since new. I now have 10 700 plus miles on them and front is shot but rear still has probably2000 miles left. I am a older rider and mostly a conservative rider but the tires have several 80 mph rides and one 115 mile stint just to see what my tea cup is capable of. Mostly pavement riding but at least two good week long twisty Arkansas back roads rides at spirited speeds canyon carving that I feel would be a bit of a challenge to most riders. So, a good shout out to the 70s for performing well. This is my second use of the tires as I had them on a F 700 GS that I installed them on for a Pony Express route from St Joe MO to the Utah border line with a bit of a back track to catch the Continental Divide route up to Montana. Only distraction I experienced included being, in my opinion a bit rough riding on pavement, and front tire scalloping on the front tire on both bikes. Also I had several incidents of sever tank slap when riding at 45 oe so mph on sand roads where an occasional section would deepen substantially. But the 700 did not have a dampner on her where the niner does so that would surely have been an aid back then. Back tire solid on both bikes. Hope this review helps. I've purchased the new Dunlop Mission tire to replace and just waiting for a 70 degree day to really warm them up be for trying to spoon those monsters on. I hope they tend to be more smooth on pavement even though a supposedly 50/50 tire
 
Changed from the TKC 70 to the Dunlop Mission on Thursday and Friday. Front tire was a fairly easy change out but the rear, both the old TKC coming off and new Dunlop going on were wrestling matches with spoons. I used Dynabeads for balancing. Test ride and Tire scrub off indicated the Mission tires smoother than the 70's but Tire whine similar. Carving a turn appears to be a bit harder as the bike seemed to want to strand up out of a turn too soon so had to pay attention. It may be because I was a little timid with them during scrub in so a bit of experience to get the feel needed. Nice looking tire but since I change myself I will most likely go back to the Anakee Adventure next time. A 50/50 tire probably overkill for this bike.
 
I have to say that - when the time comes - I think I may well go for these instead of the Pilot Road 4/5s that I'd been thinking about previously. I do sometimes stray off fully made-up roads, and the versatility these provide (according to reviews, which are all excellent) would be more useful than going for something that would theoretically allow me to squeeze more speed out of the bike on the road.
Saw your bike recently in the service bay at Lind WGC when picking up my new Urban- love the colour scheme. hopefully meet up sometime to swap ideas re mods

I'm confused - according to Dunlop they don't make these tyres in a size to fit the R9T. Can you conform the sizes you bought, please?

I quite like the look of the new Dunlop Mutant, actually.
 
@Weschmann - now that you had the Dunlop Mission for about three months, what's your impression?

I'm due in the weeks for a new set, and unless a light goes on or I overlooked something major, it's going to be either TKC70s or Mission. Anyone else here who has experienced both tires?
 
Park I just removed them from my rims. Was working on 3000 Miles but they were just too rough riding at highway speeds that made r8ding a chore. Limited gravel riding so not rely necessary for my current style riding. Will put back on if I decide to do any serious off road trails, but other than that they did not meet my requirements. At three tho7sand miles though wearing like concrete so definitely a long mileage tire.

I'd go with the 70s. Had them originally and they were more than enough tire and still hwy enjoyable
