Which kind of torx screw head under seat

To remove the seat I got the nice BMW torx 'key' but when I tried it it was very hard to get a grip with this key. Almost too afraid to put too much pressure on it because the rubber around the torx bit perhaps would break.

After taking a look at the screw I noticed it is has a flat head but I would think considering the shape of the rubber around the torx bit a round head would be more suitable to get it on the screw, considering one probably does it blindly. Does anyone know if this is the normal kind of screw or has it perhaps been replaced.

[I know, not a really shocking or urgent question, just very curious]

Yeah, I also had the idea it was a bit damaged. I was very carefull not to force it so the damage must be done before I got the bike. So far that would then be the only damage to be found on the bike. It even had still had the original screen protector on the speedometer, I cannot understand how you can ride 6000+km with a blurry view, I noticed it in the first 2 minutes of the testdrive.

That appears to be the normal bolt, and I agree it is a pain in the left ear to take the seat off. Even with a regular torx spanner.
I replaced mine with one that you can remove with your fingers. Google or Amazon is your friend to find a replacement screw. I bought this one: Amazon.com
Hope this helps.

To put things into perspective, that bolt should be tightened at 3Nm. That's "barely" tight. Jus a little bit. In fact, if you can't undo this bolt with the OEM seat removal tool (looks sorta like an ignition key) it's too tight. I imagine dealerships routinely overtighten this bolt because they use larger than necessary wrenches.

That’s funny UGS, when deciding to jump onto the forum this evening, I thought about missing Baloo’s comments, insights and his inspirational seat hold down bolt. Granted, I didn’t know him as well as others, I do miss seeing his posts. I hope all is swell with him and his.
P.S. yes T30

If you want to replace I can recommend RVS Schroeven met binnenzeskant | RVS Paleis as an excellent source for stainless steel bolts, nuts etc

Word of caution, if you have shelled out over ÂŁ400 for a genuine seat hump it may be prudent to retain the original bolt or even get a more secure one with a security head. Buddy of mine had a knurled easy-to-remove bolt and some toe rag had his hump away at a bike meet of all places.

Thanks for all your replies, sorry that I did not searched/find the great seat bolt topic. I -wrongly- assumed it was too trivial but then again when you are enthusiastic about something nothing is trivial :)
And indeed very good tips about the replacement possibilities and theft considerations!
