As some of us setup our bikes I figured a thread to share what and how we are doing it is order. If it uses power, or a mount than this is the thread to post up how you do it.
The more detail and photos the better!

Where is the best spot to put the + and - pieces of this battery harness kit to charge my heated gear, and where should I stick it out from under the seat into the world so I can plug my gear into it? 2017 classic model.

Looks like there is two + terminals under the seat and people tend to use the one on the right without the nub? What about negative connection? Thanks.

So I added driving lights to the bike, which are controlled through a control switch that triggers the relay. The 12v supply to the relays I have taken from the rear light plug (the service plug is used by the UnitGarage rear/brake light).

All happy in light land!

Than I noticed that the rear light did not have a white light for numberplate so I ordered a 4LED light from Wunderlich and tied that in to the rear/brake light on the same circuit as the UG rearbrake light. This also worked fine.

BUT now when I switch the driving lights on, I get a fault error on the dashboard for the lights.

I was thinking as a solution to remove the 12v supply to the switch for the driving lights to the GPS connector, assuming that would be able to deal with the larger current draw....

I concur. Sounds like too much draw on a single circuit. I have my driving lights tied to the GPS wire it works well. I have two piaa 530s. I want to say they are 8w each. I didn’t figure out how to delete the switch so I just leave it on all the time. It made me nervous at first but they turn off automatically after a bit. So far so good!

Anyway,... rewired the switch lead (green on the SW Motech wiring loom) to the pos side of the GPS lead, I can now switch the driving lights on with out getting the warning light.

The extra combined draw on the rear loom of the switch circuit AND the numberplate light must have been a flag for the CANbus.

No more fault code

Instaling quad lock weather proof wirless charging head

Hey guys I would be indebted if someone can shed some light on my questions. where are the two aux power sockets on our bike i thought there was only one on left hand side below the tank. Another question is how do i connect QUAD LOCK 12V TO USB WATERPROOF SMART ADAPTOR. do i have to move the fuel tank to get access to the battery negative and positive terminal? which i really don't want to do. is there anyway i can access -ve and +ve of battery? I know there is positive below the rider seat, is there negative connection anywhere else other than the battery itself. thanks heaps in advance. Cheers

As you say they are BELOW the tank on the left of the bike. Depending on which year bike you have either a DIN plug or a USB plug. If you have the USB plug you can just plug a lead from the charger in to the USB, no need to remove the tank or wire anything to the battery.

If you don't have the USB port and you want to install the item you bought you can get the pos on the bar just behind the tank under the seat and the negative can go on any bolt that makes contact with the frame (i used one of the middle seat frame bolts).

Another alternative is to plug it into the GPS connector, you need the connector from BMW to do that, search for the GPS thread in electronics... This plug is tucked a little bit more away, it is forward of the DIN/USB plug

good luck

I made a small wiring adapter to go from the GPS plug under the tank to the Quadlock waterproof charger, works great with the wireless charging head and turns on/off with ignition (slight delay of around a minute when turning off as others have said). Brief video showing the setup here, but if you want any more details ask away: New video by Ben Haskell

I got a couple of unpopulated GPS connectors from eBay for very little money.

Hi there,

I just got a Quad Lock mount with a build in charger. I've got a USB socket allready installed on the spare cable coming from the battery. Does anybody know how to connect a new USB phone charger with a plus and negative wires to the battery? When I remove the seat I can only find a plus connection? Thanks for the help!

JDB
Quadlock also has a converter that you can use from the battery. The USB gives a 5V charge, so you can't hook up a USB connector straight to the battery.

Optimate has one too that converts the 12V to USB output.

The plus connector sits under the seat, there is a connection for the jump starter under a plastic cap right behind the fuel tank.

That is indeed not going to work, wunderlich has a connector that you can use if you want to connect it to the back of the usb port.

However, more practical solution is to connect the red lead in attachment 1 to the pos battery jumping post under the seat and the black to a bolt on the frame, e.g. for the seat support.

you can also consider in buying a USB single to a double lead and plug that in to the existing USB port:

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked before.

I converted the powerlet socket on my 2016 Roadster to a double USB socket a few months ago and connected my Quad Lock USB cable to it. All worked as expected.

After a long weekend trip this weekend I've noticed the USB socket does not always power up when the engine turns on. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not and there's no output from the USB sockets at all. The socket has continuiny so I do not think faulty - it looks like the bike is randomly not sending power to that socket at all.

Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you resolve?

How should I wire up a dash cam?

Hi folks, bought a Blueskysea front and back dash cam and am wondering what's the best way to wire a dash cam set for the R9T. Strange it seems when I tested the cables against the main positive contacts it refuses to power the cam up. Even when it's just basic red and black! Cam works find with a regular hobby lipo batt.

Would really appreciate any advice!

The white wire is probably a trigger wire of sorts. But you gotta check the manual on what it does before hooking it up to prevent any damage.
So you connect black/red to the battery.. and white to a switched live on the bike.

There's enough documentation here on the forum on the topic of wiring in accessories.

I installed one on my r nine t and the trigger wire was connected to the fuse under the seat in the front. For me it was the easiest place to get a trigger from AND YOU DO NEED THE TRIGGER CONNECTED. The positive was direct to battery and black to the negative. I’ve now added a Hex ezecan which is better. I do have auxiliary lights though to make the Hex worth the price.
One issue I have always had with Blueskysea cameras is that I have always had to download the latest firmware and upgrade to get it to work properly.
it’s easy to do and good insurance in my opinion.

Wow thank u guys for the super fast responses. Really helpful. @Ozgordo, would u be able to share pics or descriptions of where you connected the red black and white? Will look for the fuse and positive to the battery mount... Think I got it. But for the black, where did u connect it? Thank u for confirming that I do need the white trigger.
