I picked up my new-to-me R9T today. It’s a slightly used 2022 model with only 330 miles. It now has 499 miles after my afternoon ride.

A couple of my previous bikes that were similar to this were a 2015 Kawasaki Z1000 and a 2005 Honda 919.

The weight of the 9T is the same as both of these other bikes. The torque is about the same as the Z1000 and a little more than the Honda. The horsepower is a little less than tne Z1000 which was 140.

The 9T has similar low end and mid range power as the Z1000. The Z1000 was faster at the top end, but I rarely used it and just on the occasional straight stretch of backroad. So, I really won’t miss it.

The seating position falls between the Honda and Kawasaki. The Kawasaki was more cramped, the Honda less so.

the brakes and suspension are very similar to the Kawasaki and far superior to the Honda.

My most recent Bike was a 2022 R1250GS. I’m comparing Apples to oranges here I know. The GS is more comfortable and refined. The 9T more visceral and more fun in every aspect.

The 9T feels faster than the GS everywhere. This may be an illusion because you are protected behind a windscreen and gas tank on the GS and the 9T makes you feel like you are just
Out there flying.

You sit IN the GS and you sit ON the 9T. Of course the 9T feels more flickable in the corners than the GS.

I think the 9T has way more character and X factor than any of the other bikes I’ve mentioned. Personally I think the 9T is one of the most beautiful bikes out there. The fit and finish on this bike is remarkable.

I rode about 3 hours today and I was comfortable enough. I’m 55 YOA, 6’2”, 205 lbs and have a 34 inch inseam. This 9T will be a terrific backroads bomber for short to mid range rides, for me that’s up to 350 or 400 miles.

Overall, I am super stoked with this bike.

Karl, what a tasteful choice!
Congrats, and enjoy your Boxer as much as you can!
👍
That big ol' US-taillight still bothers me. Get an Amen, ...anyone?
Please ditch it for the EU version or something else. ;)

Congratulations on your R nineT @Karlwithak !!

Thank you for the comparison of the bikes you've owned, very interesting to have a benchmark for the other makes and models in the category.

I have a 2017 Pure, and a 2022 GSA, and your brief comparison of these two bikes is spot on. You really do feel like you're flying on the R nineT, and when I ride these two bikes back to back it is really stark in how one is more visceral and raw, while the other is more refined. One forum member recently stated that one is for smiles and the other is for miles.

Thanks for posting your riding impressions and comparisons. 👍

I have considered buying a used R1200GS, but aside from even the lowered bikes feeling too tall for my short legs, the bike just seems huge when I'm sitting on one. It also seems kind of disconnected if that makes any sense, I think mostly because they're just so much bike in front of me and I'm not used to that. To be fair, I've not ridden one. I'd probably love it.

If I were doing lots of touring and long days I think I'd love to have one. But as-is, only doing 1-2 trips per year, it's just way more bike than I need.
