Flapper delete on 2021 and full exhaust replacement

Thought I’d do a quick post on this since I’m sure it’ll come up more and more as the ‘21s start hitting the road.

Simply replacing the flapper w a link pipe isn’t really an option on the new bikes since it is welded into the pipe now on the Cat side. There is also a third O2 sensor in the Cat on the Euro5 bikes that needs to be dealt with too.
To the best of my knowledge, Unit Garage has the only option currently for solving this problem and it is, as they said, “quite simple”!
Unfortunately it requires a whole new exhaust and header system but it’s totally worth it IMO!

The third sensor now goes in the flapper delete link pipe and appears to completely solve the problem. I have a few hundred miles on mine and so far no error codes or issues.
I left the flapper servo connected and on the bike but just removed the cables from it.
Admins if this is too redundant to my last post regarding system install then go ahead and remove it but I thought it helpful to provide as much info as possible. This mod is a game changer on the Euro5 bikes!!

I just switched mine out today and I’m so happy I did, super easy work and I think it sounds a ton better than the full titanium Akra system I had on my old bike (I went for the stainless Unit Garage header).

One thing I’ll point out is that you don’t “need” a new exhaust, although I’m sure you save a ton of weight with the aftermarket can. But I used the stock cans on the Unit Garage headers and it was a perfect fit and actually sounds quite amazing — again, I think much better than the full Akra system, though YMMV.

Yes. IMO, having had many sets of Ti headers and SS headers for various ducatis, and one each on the R nineT, titanium sounds tinier and not as low and meaty as stainless steel. Of course, it could simply be a case of me hearing what I want or what I've read before -- a little bit of confirmation bias? But I do think the stainless headers sound deeper. And some people like more of a titanium brappp.

Hi, is that mean if you want to remove the flapper, it required the whole new header system + slip on exhaust from Unit Garage ? for 2021 Rninet

I don't love the look of the UG exhaust that much and I don't want the titanium sound. I may use an aftermarket exhaust from Ixil -- the Ironhead -- which is also a couple of shorter pipes but they come out lower and not as far back, plus they are stainless steel rather than Ti. But to be honest, the stock exhaust is already loud as hell -- even with the DB killers still in -- now that I've removed the cat and the flapper with the UG headers. I'm not sure I could go much louder without getting arrested here, as the Germans are super serious about rules.

I also love the song ``Iron Head'' by Helmet, one of my favorite bands. Check it out:

Hi New at the forum From Mexico *sorry for My English
First of all thank you! without this post and upgrade I was ready to sell my brand new Euro 5 9T

I used to own an Euro 4 9T classic 2017 wich I really loved, early this year y had a crash (nothing serious) but the bike was totaled. With the insurance Money I went an Order a brand new One exact same color and everything as my previous *Aluminum Tank, I receive it 2 weeks ago and right out of the dealership I noticed seomething is not Right…

Throthle response was way Slow and laggy even in DYNA, acceleration not quite as exciting, caracter lacking, most of the engine brake was gone and finally the cherry on the top (the amazing sound I got used to, even in stock form, was GONE!

So when I saw this quote “This mod is a game changer on the Euro5 bikes!!” I said ill try it as a last resource.. if nothing changes ill sell it..

Yesterday I received my UG SS Headers kept the original exhaust…. put them on, hop for a Ride and OMG!!!
Game Changer is an understatement… ill say Mind Blowing!! (If you haven’t done this kind of mod in the Past)

Not Only my old Bike was Back with all the Character I used to Loved, it was Back and immediately when I twisted the Throttle i knew this was a Diferent animal….. I had the same Felling as when I hop on My old Bike for the first Time…

Every Euro 5 Owner do your self a favor, change those Headers (keep the stock exhaust if you like the original note of the Euro 4 just more raspy and deep) and get ready to experience way more performance and Joy out of your Bike and forget about the downgrades the Euro 5 has…

Thanks Again Scoot CHEERS!

Awesome Mr James!!! How ironic that I’m reading this while sitting in Cabo!!
Glad you’re now happy with your bike.
Enjoy and please keep us posted.

OK. I came across this thread when investigating the flapper, which my dealer says is throwing a warning light on my bike because it (or one of them???) is intermittently getting stuck.

Now my question, with apologies for party-pooping, to those who say deleting it produces an amazing power boost, is this: are there dynos providing the hard evidence? On other forums, such claims are routinely accompanied by uploads of the relevant graphs.

I think it’s an amazing sound difference not power boost you’ll experience. Got a link to the posts that claim this ‘amazing power boost’ I can’t seem to find them! As you said hard evidence is nice to back any claims up! There is only a single valve (not multiple) fitted to the bike so there can only be the single one that is getting stuck!

Agree and his being the only post mentioning it being a ‘game changer’ one can only assume he got carried away with the excitement and euphoria of the noise changes nothing else! Anything else was a placebo. Unless you have a Ducati Multistrada deleting the flapper will give you next to no discernible performance enhancement!

I have taken the valves off a couple of bikes now, both within 3 months of new. One was my Scrambler and the other my R18 (2 valves).

My observations are that both bikes had the obvious noise change from day 1.... I'd label it minor but mostly nice. However, during the first 5 to 10,000k's the motor in the bike frees up and some positive things come from that. The exhaust also seems to gather some character.

I'm 62 and still waiting for a game changer (not talking to you grim reaper).

Hey everyone,
I added the UG ti double end can with the Akro ti headers and link pipe. The install was easy, even the deletion of the flapper and cat was within my limited capabilities (I'm an IT guy).
The resultant "rainbow" coloring of the pipes is gorgeous, it's soooo much lighter, and the sound is brash and anti-social - I freakin' love it, even if my neighbors don't :p
The only issue I have is the increased RPM idle speed at initial startup, although it only lasts for 10 seconds before setting to the standard level.
Bloody love my 2023 100th Anni R9T.
Cheers,
Baz
