Remove the seat and make some pictures..
They could have hooked up the Zumo XT in 3 ways:

• Directly on the battery (that means it is powered 24/7)
• GPS plug (but you say it is not wired that way)
• Branched off the accesorie plug (the powerlet thing on the left).
  
  Altough i think you can take apart the mount.. and only a small plug (the pins that u see in the gps mount) wil be left. I would suggest doing that!

 

Thanks Chris - sounds like I'll need to explore with the tank off. The sodding garmin power mount was so poorly designed that the small bolts on the rear of the allen bolts were rotating in the plastic, given no ability to undo the stupid thing.

True.. they used the tiniest screw in the man-known universe to mount that Garmin plug..

Put it this way, I have already tried drilling out the screws from the mount... POS!

 

UPDATE - thanks for input all, I can reveal it was connected directly to the battery, so full tank off job (yey!). Anywho, operation complete and the darned thing is off the bike. God knows why they didn't use the GPS connecter.

On the bright side, I know how to remove the tank now 😂 and my OCD was allowed to give it a clean up underneath everything. Spent 7 hrs on the bike the following day and had no issues like the bike rattling to bits en-route, so I reassembled ok.
