I'm sitting here looking at the handlebars and I'm not sure there's room for my Garmin...a place where it won't block the instruments. Lemme know if anybody fits one.

As I understand it, (I haven't done it) you buy the bmw plug that mates to the plug on the bike and then wire it to your gps plug no matter what the make.

Did you test the BMW plug with a meter?
If that works than you may have wired it wrong.
Those tiny numbers on the repair plug are mighty hard to see.
Also, Are you sure you are using the GPS plug on the bike?
There are 2 plugs within close proximity of each other.
If that works than you may have wired it wrong.

I don't know about a cover, but I would definitely put some dielectric grease on it and tape it up.

On the left side near the front of the tank should be a plug for gps. You can buy a matching plug to fit.
Then your gps will power on with the key and power off 30 to 60 seconds after the key is turned off.
Alternatively you can get power underneath the seat from the bar you will see. In that case, the power would be continuous
until you powered the tom tom off.
