RapidBike Evo

Being from "THE OLD,OLD,OLD" school I have a question about relationships ? Those between a flashed ECU and a RapidBike Evo system. Years ago I had my '17 Racers ECU flashed and it works pretty well; ie. better throttle response, pulls harder etc. This said when I run her up to redline in like 4th gear and get a clean break I pull the plugs and they look as if she's running out of fuel near the top (not getting bubbles on the electrodes but real white). I don't want to have the ECU flashedbacked to OEM nor do I want to buy a second one. So what I'm wondering is will installing a RapidBike EVO kit let me have some room to play with mixtures and such or do they only really work when coupled with OEM programed ECU's ?

The reason I even ask is if they'll work well together then at some point I can pull the RB kit off and use it on another bike if need be.

I've got an EVO on a Racer, but I've not played with it to any great extent and at the moment I'm running the bike with the Zard map and adaptive tuning switched off. I've got a Zard on my bike and it seems to work quite well. However I ride road only and neither am I trying to extract every last bit of power out of the engine

AFAIK the EVO overides the ECU map, so I don't know if it can read a modified map in the ECU.

The other point is the EVO is more than a module, it requires a loom, sold by RapidBike to be installed. It would be a bit of a PIA to install and remove it frequently, easy enough to do though. As an alternate if you had EVO looms installed on separate bikes, you could utilize the ADORI Bypass that plugs into the slot in place of the EVO. This bypasses the modifications made by the RB loom, returning the bike to stock, on the bike you weren't using the EVO module on.

The EVO only adjusts fuelling and not the ignition map (you'd need the Racing module for that). If you want to know more on what the module can do, check out the instructions for the Software, "RB Master" that will give you a better idea of what the EVO can and can't do

With adaptive mapping on the EVO it should gradually change the fuelling to any target A/F ratio you set within the software. The downside I and a few others on here complained about is at lower revs it tends to overfuel but the software gives the option of switching off the adaptive tuning below RPMs of your choosing i.e. you could set it to only allow adaptive tuning to change the map at higher revs.

Alternatively with the EVO you can adjust the fuelling manually at given RPM and TPS position.

To be really sure, unless somebody else knows more, I'd direct the question to RapidBike themselves, specifically asking if the module can read a modified map in the ECU. That's if I'm understanding your intentions correctly.

Weegie, Thanks so much you answered my questions and pointed me in the right direction for more information. Because I tinker the race version may be for me but I shall talk direct to RB on what would be best. Cheers and thanks again.

No bother @rich46 you've got 2 racers if I remember correctly

If you found a map you like, or tinkered with the stock maps offered for the R9T, there are 2, standard and modified, the modified being for the Zard system.

It would be easy then to transfer the map across onto the other bike, you'd need the second loom of course.

As you can save the modded maps if you had differing versions for each bike, then it would be straightforward to just load the appropriate map into the EVO for the bike you're wanting to use it on.

Good luck if you choose the Racer Module it also has options for many other features, you'll see it pointed out on the manual for the RB Master software.

Spending even more cash with additional hardware and a wideband lambda, both the EVO and Racer modules are capable of targeting a given A/F ratio on the fly.

I'd be interested on any info you get back from RB, if you get the time

Weegie, You are quite correct in that I do in fact have two Racer. One is the bike I ride all the time the other one is in storage and is totally stock OEM. The stored one I had planned to turn into a track bike but life interrupted . I will soon wash and service it and put it up for sale as I have too many projects on the fire as t is.
I do think that going with the race version of the RB kit may be the best way for me. I come from the era of carburetors and am hoping that I can use the more advanced kit as a way to not only make my street bike run better but also use it as a learning tool. Maybe the race kit will help guide me into the 21st century. Cheers
