Ordered today the whole Ohlin$$$ combo;fork, shock,SD.
25% of the cost of a new R9T.But hopefully worth it !
Went with 9,5nm Front and 170nm Rear for a 220 lbs guy without riding gear. Can anyone comment on this who has already experience with the setup on his R9T if the springrates sound right or if he would have stayed 9.0 F , 160 R or would have even gone up to 10/180 ? I don't commute or don't plan to take the bike on smooth tracks but mostly ride hard on backroads in Norcal or Mexico...

I'm 215 lbs in street clothes. 10.0 front, 160 rear, fork oil levels lowered 60mm.

For 220 lbs in full gear I bought 9.5 N/mm front and 160 N/mm rear. Fork works best for me at factory settings, shock BM 440 works best for me at rebound to factory setting and compression factory + 3 clicks. Fork oil level per factory setting.
Ordered from Europe, Euro 2,330 including shipping and three special Ă–hlins tools to install fork innards. Heaven, pure heaven. Is it ever great now. Tracking through curves with frost heaves, etc., amazing. Blew my budget for the bike, but the OEM suspension was very poor, for me and the roads I ride. Felt like I would get a concussion sooner or later. Now: wow!

Thanks for the quick reply.I ordered the forks not the cartridges so I guess 9.5 is right in the ballpark since I don't want to mess with it and drain the fork oil to lower the oil level in the fork.
As for the rear I went with the 170 to combat fork rise on acceleration and quicken the steering up a bit having the bike a little higher in the rear and steepen steering angle.

Need advice from those who have upgraded to Ohlins

Hi everyone,
I have gone through all the thread but still have your opinion to ask.
I enjoy riding the bike 200/300 km on the hills in Italy and despite the fatigue due to the wind and the lenght, I have the impression that suspensions could do a better work making all more comfortable but still responsive.

I have already worked a bit on the various settings available on the OEM with little result (my weight is 170 lb.)

I have no plans to go to a circuit.
The cherry on the cake would be to have less pain when approaching my house as I live in an area with stone paved roads.

Given these premises, do you think I would find a solution upgrading to the ohlins package?
Thanks in advance

Stefano,

The Ohlins package will work the best if is set-up for your weight. Pay the extra money to have the shock with the correct spring and take the time set the suspension sag for full compliance with the road.

This is a cost / benefit question. I ride a lot. Commuting, track work, up to 1000 kms on a weekend. I think the OEM suspension would have killed me. Any hard work and it basically said "I'd rather throw you off than give you any connection to the road". It was an easy decision to put on suspension that made the bike sublime to ride. But, if you don't ride often, hard, or long ... ymmv.
