I have a single side mounted one. It's more style over function to be honest. The straps are a bit of a pain to navigate easily... and sometimes if I'm not careful the metal buckles on the upper strap sections will slap against the bike somewhere when opening the bag.

But it has always held what I needed, and I haven't had any quality issues with it yet (never driven through rain though). They sell a newer version that looks like rubber which is supposed to be waterproof and seems to have easier plastic quick latches but the bags look uglier IMO. I suppose it depends how often you want to use them and in what kind of weather. If it's occasional use then they are all right, but if it's all the time, you will most likely find the straps annoying for both adjusting and latching/unlatching.

 

Hey @SenatorSteak - I never wrote a review, but I do have the Suede Unit Garage panniers with the single sided frame and the double frame. I think it works perfect for me, and the quality is great. However they are not the biggest bags you can get. If you're going for maximum storage capability, you might want to go with one of their larger sytems.

 

Thanks for the thoughts @giddyup69 and @Dauphinais! I love the look of the suede/waxed canvas and there don't seem to be too many other options that have both style and a hardshell saddlebag.

 

Hi SenatorSteak, I've been researching soft luggage for the last few weeks and have just this evening ordered the Mototech Legend Black Edition luggage. I'm hoping with all the research I've done it proves to be a good choice, by all means check them out as an option before you commit to anything

If i had to go for new luggage now.. i would go for the SW motech frames; with an adapterplate. And then pick my own choice of bags.
Could be any bag / hard case you can think of.

Great suggestion @Chris.! I always see these being left-side only because of the high-exhaust on the right. It looks like Unit Garage might be the only one make a dual bracket? I love the idea of getting the bracket and then buying whatever saddlebags you want.

 

The 2018 R9T UGS I got used a few months ago came with a Unit Garage 2-sided mount and the canvas bags. The above reviews are spot on. They’re nice to have, but don’t hold much and aren’t convenient to use. Also, mine look like they were black—they’re really badly faded. Except for that, they seem to be good quality. If I were starting over, I’d look elsewhere.

 

you can take the mounting hardware attached to the bags and mount them to any other bag you're willing to punch a few holes in. i've done it with several cheap amazon bags with good results.
