Is not the hump/ cowl already fitted with a sort-of lock? Mine is, tho' I have not yet been able to open it without a stick of TNT, but as I don't have the cowl fitted that is immaterial. Water? - how about placing a semi-full foil 'bladder' taken from one of the wine casks on sale, which may be had (here at least) in ~2L, 2.5L, 4L capacities from any pub/ bottle-shop/ liquor-store, etc. I assume aesthetics wouldn't matter so long as there is water inside!

Mine opens with a special key which is actually a smal star bit that came with the bike.

Opening it is simple, no dynamite needed [emoji848]

I use the hump to store my onboard tools. Used some stick on Velcro to keep it from sliding around.

No such key with mine, GhostRider, but I'll locate the cowl tomorrow and take a pic of the 'lock' on it.

 

The key is actually used only for removing the jump completely as I’m realizing now.

Opening that compartment is done just by removing the backrest. Interested to see how this is done on your bike

Being in TX, water or gasoline back there definitely isn’t an option for me. Electronics, esp. phone I also wouldn’t do for the vibrations issue. I just took a solid plastic pouch, stuffed as many bits and pieces of tools inside to fill the space and feel well prepared in case something needs attention.

 

That's more or less what I've done with my Sargent hump. In there right now I have same charging cables, an Optimate DIN to USB adapter, a set of torx keys, a set of hex keys and a disc lock/reminder cable.

 

Water bottle - I would love a form fitting bottle that took up as much space in there as possible, still let me close the hatch and gave me a drinking water source for the road.

Go to a camping store and look for a water storage bladder.
They are quite robust so should handle any rubbing/chafing inside the cowl.

You can get fuel bladders too, but I think they'd be a bit too big to fit.

 

will look into this. Too big and it risks just being all plastic back there.

 

Put my puncture repair kit in there, that way I know I've always got it...
