So it’s almost like if it recognizes a draw it never cuts power? Does that make any sense?
I have a Garmin sat nav cradle wired to the sat nav connector. The sat nav also charges through the cradle, so it's pretty much like your usb charger. When I switch off the bike ignition the sat nav stays on until about a minute later then powers down. I'm sure other members also wired other gadgets to the sat nav out plug and got the same results. I'm wondering if your USB charger is somehow sending a "keep awake" signal to the bike in much the same way as an Optimate battery charger does when connected to the DIN socket. Perhaps if you can link us to the USB charger you used it might members a better chance of helping you. This is indeed a strange problem...

@Ian_H it certainly sounds as if the BMW charger isn't supplying enough power to your phone - what a bummer! I'd be returning it to BMW and seeing if they'll refund you. Certainly doesn't seem to be up to the task of supplying power to what will almost certainly be the most common USB accessory that'll be connected to it.

Glad you finally got a result!

All I can say is I’d zip tie it, up to you though. :)

As long as the current draw is within the permitted maximum there should be no issue with using either power socket.

Personally I'd want to see if the DIN accessory socket is OK before deciding on options. Would be good if there is a member local to you that could test a known good accessory in the socket and see if power is OK.

If your BMW dealer is local maybe you can drop by and ask them if you could quickly test a DIN accessory in the socket to rule out a bike fault. That way if there is a problem and your bike is within warranty you can get it booked in at a time convenient to you.

In all likelihood it is a (fleabay?) accessory failure... I've had that myself when a cheapo power outlet melted the in-line fuse holder it came with. Could have been nasty!

Hi ...
I bought a DIN powered USB socket and after plugging it in to accessory power socket - it worked fine.
Connected my phone - it was charging fine.
Went for a ride - phone had lost power and was discharged.
Subsequently removed the plug - re-connected - nothing.
I've learned there are no fuses - so curious what's caused this.

There are no fuses on your bike, correct, the bike's electronics senses over-current in the various circuits and electronically cuts power when it senses what to it is a fault condition. Normally when you remove the offending device or correct the fault things should return to normal, as the electronic "fuse" resets itelf.

When you plug other gadjets into the DIN accessory socket do you get power ok? Could be that the accessory you plugged in has gone faulty or draws too much current with the phone attached (which would be very suprising).

I take it your phone is charging up OK elsewhere and holding it's charge as expected?

My money is on the phone charger being faulty...

Hello,
I am following this thread to find 12v switched power source to supply power to a powercommander autotune module. I tapped into the gps acessory plug to the ted with white stripe wire and get 12V and on startup it increases to 14 volts. However after about 8 to 10 seconds it loses voltage. When i disconnect the autotune and just test the bike 12 volts stay just like everyone is saying in this forum. Any thoughts or ideas why the autotune would cause the bike to lose the 12v signal?

The Autotuene module is probably drawing too much current mate so the CANBUS system is cutting the power.

I see you have also posted in the Engine Tuning section, on reflection that forum section is probably a more appropriate place to ask this question so if anyone can help @hybridgsxr out please answer thre.

Here is the link to the thread:

I have a 2017 Scrambler and I'm searching for a switched 12V plug. Following this thread, when I look under the tank, on the clutch side, I see a covered connector that isn't connected to anything and is zip-tied to the frame. When I remove the cover and look at the connect I see the following type of connector (see picture). The shape of the connector is different than the one displayed earlier in this thread posted by @lostrider. This connector does NOT work with 83300413585. I feel like the more accurate part number may be 83300413582. Am I looking in the correct place on my bike? Why would my connector be different than the one pictured by @lostrider? If PN:43300413585 isn't correct, does anyone know what PN is? My goal is to find a switched 12V supply and not have to cut in to any existing wires on my bike.

Below is a picture of the connector (left) and the cover (right). Big thanks in advance.
No idea what that connector is but a very weak guess would be perhaps it is for the optional rev counter?

Glad you figured out where the switched 12V plug though.

This is the Aux plug. Here you may mount a Navi, or something else.
The female plug you get from BMW or cheaper from Touratec.
Agree with this. You can find the auxiliary plug under the tank on the left side - roughly around the area immediately behind the front indicators and down from the BMW tank badge. You should find it zip-tied to the frame and should be able to get to it without removing the tank. I used it for it's intended purpose as a Sat Nav power feed. It's wired through the canbus system so it powers up when you turn the ignition on and powers down about a minute after the ignition is switched off.

Can anyone please help me identify this plug? What is it for and is it supposed to have a cover?

This is taken from the left side of the bike, just under the tank.

Interesting! Is that the circular diagnostic socket I can see too? I'm almost sure mine has a cover on it and no wires plugged into it. Is that something you fitted?

No idea what the plug you are asking about is for, sorry!

The plug is available from your dealer as BMW part # 83300413585.

MSRP from BMW is $9.19. A lot different than Touratech.
Got the part ordered! Thanks for your help, will hopefully have it for tomorrow afternoon. :)

Wiring loom will get modified to my specification tonight in anticipation.

Since I'm in no rush I'm taking the cautious route here and am asking you kind ladies and gents to confirm that I've found the correct plug under the tank to use as the GPS feed. I'm 99% certain it is, but what the heck! It's blowing a gale outside and hailstones are falling almost horizontally outside the window! Gives me something to do! ;)

Here's a couple of photos:

Was cable-tied to the frame tube immediately behind my thumb.

Plug showing blanking over.

Blanking cover removed...

The supplied wiring loom that came with the Garmin GPS looks as if it is going to fit reasonably well after a bit of hacking, slashing, soldering and cable tying!

Now I like that price! lol I don't mind soldering/crimping etc, but just didn't want to start cutting bits off the bike's wiring loom (even if it's just only 2 wee wires) when the bike is still under warranty. Thanks for the information. :D

Lead for wiring GPS to bmw canbus socket

Found this alternative to @Lost Rider's suggestion for connecting to the canbus connector under the tank for GPS or similar. Saves splicing into the BMW wiring loom.

Will be ordering this to install my Zumo 590

Probably easier for us Brits to order! ;)

Lead for connecting any Garmin or TomTom gps into the BMW harness (GAR-CANBUSZU660) - Nippy Normans

Can @Lost Rider or anyone else confirm that this is the correct part before I order? Certainly seems to be!

Thanks in anticipation for the help!
