Thanks for the links. The Squadron one is $30 for a $2 switch found on eBay though they've added connectors to it. The HDB ones all seem to be momentary, not rocker which I want.

Will keep looking although the eBay ones are tempting.

I am going to install a pair of PIAA (ion plasma halogen) on my Nine T.

The electrical set up will use the OEM PIAA wiring harness, including the provided relay. I am buying a PIAA water proof switch.

Can you guys suggest a spot for the relay (is small) and a wire to hook the activation terminal of the relay to?

Pictures will be greatly appreciated.

Today I wired y Montana GPS to be used on the nineT. Since I do not like the way the GPS looks, but I see the advantages of having one, I decided to make the system removable.

Not big deal but anyway I want to show the pictures.

First, I used a water proof ISO plug. This one you can build or punch with some special tool or just with some long nose pliers. The OEM plug is just too "German" , so to speak. To find its pairing plug in Colombia, where I live.... What a pain, I want to ride my bike so I decided to use an ISO plug..... Available everywhere.

I used a second male plug to make a water proof top, so when I am not using the GPS the bike's plug remains clean and dry, as the GPS will be disconected and off the bike. I filled the holes on the second plug with silicone to keep water out.

So, the female plug stays on the bike, and the male plug goes with the GPS. In that way, the female plug is less prone to have a short circuit so is safer on the bike.

The plug is tucked on its original location but is locked with a reusable plastic tie, so I can release anytime I need to hook the GPS to the power.

Finally, as explained above, I use the second cap, already sealed with silicone, to cover the bike's plug.

So the GPS and its cable goes with a male plug and can be stored until needed.

To attach the GPS base, I use an ordinary handlebar mount by RAM. I like to have the GPS on sight so when I am on a twisting road I can foresee the turns... To route the cable, just use some four to five reusable plastic ties... And that's all.

Today I went to the garage to remove the tank in order to wire my Gerbing pigtails. Once I removed the seat, I realized that the jumper connection is right there. Jumping points are usually connected directly to the starter and battery and I can't imagine 10 amps being a problem being pulled from that battery cable. So, that's where I connected to. I will move it if anyone can give me a legitimate reason how it could cause a problem.

For right now I just have gloves and insoles as gloves are what I really needed but could imagine my toes getting cold on longer rides. I have found my Fox Creek jackets with a Freeze Out thermal keep me plenty warm to around freezing. My bony fingers were getting cold so I haven't tried riding below that. Now that I have heated gloves I will probably discover the next weakest link.

Hola. You guys know that for the BMW heated grips one must replace the right hand control with a new one with the the heated grips switch installed.

Likewise, do we know if either the left or the right side control can be replaced with a control with a switch for fog lights already incorporated into it? Maybe from another BMW bike?

So, I have been riding with the Gerbing portable dual controller as I did not want to have to buy two to swap between the bikes. However, I find it to be a PITA and I went ahead and ordered an non-portable one today. I will probably mount that one on the other bike and keep the portable one to mount on the Nine T in a similiar way that Lost did.

However, I do not have a bracket like that and the dual is a bit bigger. I may just have to zip tie it to the frame unless someone has a better idea.

Well, I mounted the portable controller with some sticky Velcro so that I can easily remove it during the summer months. Will test tomorrow morning as it will be 30 degrees. I pointed it upward so I can still see the LEDs. I think it came out pretty discrete.

Found this alternative to @Lost Rider's suggestion for connecting to the canbus connector under the tank for GPS or similar. Saves splicing into the BMW wiring loom.

Will be ordering this to install my Zumo 590

Probably easier for us Brits to order!

Lead for connecting any Garmin or TomTom gps into the BMW harness (GAR-CANBUSZU660) - Nippy Normans

Can @Lost Rider or anyone else confirm that this is the correct part before I order? Certainly seems to be!

Hey Dave, yes that is the same size/orientation of plug you will need.
You will only use two of the wires, power & earth.

(The difference of the Touratech plug is that it's two-pin and weather sealed).

Now I like that price! lol I don't mind soldering/crimping etc, but just didn't want to start cutting bits off the bike's wiring loom (even if it's just only 2 wee wires) when the bike is still under warranty. Thanks for the information.

You may get a dealer who won't want to sell it because it's listed as "shop only". Just try a different dealer or google the part number for another source.

Since I'm in no rush I'm taking the cautious route here and am asking you kind ladies and gents to confirm that I've found the correct plug under the tank to use as the GPS feed. I'm 99% certain it is, but what the heck! It's blowing a gale outside and hailstones are falling almost horizontally outside the window! Gives me something to do!
