Please discuss all 3D printers here.

As this is a motorcycle forum whilst we realise it will be helpful for 3D enthusiasts here to be able to discuss a little about printer related stuff, what we don't want is the forum filling up with 3D printer posts. So (for now anyway) please ONLY discuss printers here. We are sure there are plenty 3D printing sites and forums out there that you can discuss techy printing stuff to your heart's content. :)

Since march i have been using a Ender 3 S1 pro. A good first quite reliable printer. A month later i upgraded it with a sonic pad for faster printing.

At first it was quite a faf to level the thing. With bad adhesion for the 1st layer etc. After leveling it a few times and dialing in the e-steps of the extruder it ended up printing fine. I found out that pure alcohol was the solution for getting stuff to stick. A quick spray and a wipe cleans the surface for the next print.

Now the next step is i ordered a Bambu lab x1 carbon; it should arrive somewhere this week.

I have Prusa i3 MK3S+, great machine.
PC - polycarbonate is for sure UV resistant - you can find this material in many parts in your car - specially transparent. (Development of Cars Interiors is my job, working almost 30 years for automotive)

Good to know! almost every site out there says something else about fillaments. It's like trying to navigate a maze. Could you perhaps; with your knowledge make a short list of fillaments and what they are the good usecases for them? perhaps specific at making motorcycle parts (what we probably do most on here).

@kebo and @Chris. If there are new topics to discuss please bear in mind where in this 3D section they will go. Otherwise it won't just be printing filaments that's a maze, this section could turn into one too.... ;) It's better to start a new thread rather than to take an existing one off in a new direction. Such meandering threads are a real pain for members to navigate and pull out the information they need.

I have Ankermake M5 for FDM and old Anycubic Photon for resin, have not got into printing anything for my R9T yet, but been printing a while, and learned hard way that PLA is not really good for anything outside (especially for super hot inside of the car). Right now i'm trying to figure out garage opener holder, as having anything by the key, scratches the tank around ignition :(

Here is other part: Lens Holder, where I used plastic deformation for clamping - as you suggest in your design:

This is the shape what I designed (in this case part is made from ABS+) where the holder deform in the way, to allow insert of the lens into the holder repeatedly, still without damaging the part (I use it to "park" the lens when not shooting macro and using it underwater. I would not go further with intended deformation in your case:

Hope it will help.

That’s a big help @kebo …. and your design is elegant with mine just a scribble. You’re spot on about the deformation dynamic. Depending on the material of choice for the filament, and thickness of the finished piece the flexibility may be such that I don’t need a hinge and I can just bend open the bracket …… the dynamic forces against the brackets during normal highway conditions would re-enforce the layered method used to manufacture them by compressing the layers rather than trying to pull them apart ….. and …..l as you suggested that’s about how to select a position on the print table …… all good sound and appreciated advice Kebo. Thanks for your time … well done Sir. ………………………………….. Blitz
