Hi guys, Im after a comm device that is hidden and works well, the SMH one has to stick on the side or your helmet and cruising along on my 9T with my open face legend helmet and a pair of shiny Raybans on aint gonna do me much for my coolness rating.

Any recommendations?
Just so I'm reading you with zero distortion - you want to put a Bluetooth comm unit on a 3/4 helmet on an unfaired motorbike?

What do you plan to use it for?

Recording wind noise was my first thought, but I have seen other people with open face helmets using them. Never asked them about them though. At the moment I would only need to listen to GPS directions from my iphone as my sense of direction sucks so probably could just use headphones.

So even using my full face helmet, I hate the way that thing sticks on the side, so what other options are there?

AFAIK, none. the latest Sena, is the slimmest, most compact Bluetooth available. If you're dead set against having a unit on you helmet, your option would be to add a wired set of helmet speakers and connect to your smart phone/device using the 3.5mm jack.

Or you could buy a helmet with integrated Bluetooth, there are several available.

If money no object @Michel suggested a good solution:

Funk Motorrad und Radio Motorrad - BlueBike ist Ihr Ansprechpartner bei Fragen rund um Gegensprechanlage Motorrad.

Slight bit of lateral thinking came up with ski helmet bluetooth speakers, if all you are wanting to do is listen to tunes or SatNav. They actually have a built-in mic in one of the speaker units but wouldn't know how successful it's be on a bike....

Outdoor Tech Chips Wireless Bluetooth Helmet Audio

Have a look, it's worth it for the youtube video advert on the page!!!! :D

I can't see the ski helmet unit working very well in a motorcycle helmet application since it's designed to be accessible. Unless you don't mind removing the speakers every time you want to turn them on/off and charge.

With any other unit, it seems like the microphone would negate any cool factor - unless his Wayfarers are made out of highly distracting unobtanium.

For a half helmet application, where all you need is to listen to GPS (or maybe music) and voice application in null, I think a quality pair of wired speakers is the way to go. But let's be honest, over 35 or 45 mph, you probably won't hear them over wind noise anyway.

Yeah it's pretty hard to get bluetooth headsets without a boom mic!

Here might be another idea, but you'd have to forget about using the mic.

Connect to a decent pair of motorcycle speaker inserts with a jack and this could at least give sat nav instructions and music on the go....

@Gary the Sena SMH10R is very low profile and comes with both the hard boom microphone and a stick-on wired microphone. If you can get past the look of the unit attached to the side of you helmet, then you could leave the microphone unattached?

Searched but didn't find anything else so bumping this old thread.

Is anyone else running a Sena SMH10R, Garmin Zumo 395, and iPhone 6 that can give me some pointers about how to get them to work together and stay working more than a few minutes? Right now if I'm playing music through media player or phone, as soon as the GPS gives directions (at twice the volume) then it's all over until you start re-pairing things. You will hear clicking and such but that's it.

Also this morning I was listening to a podcast on the way to work and some idiot kept calling on repeat until I just shut the thing off. When the phone rings it's at full blast, amplified by 10 with a megaphone to your ear. Does someone know how to turn this level down? (I yelled an expletive loud enough that a voice recognition feature either hung up or muted the ringing)

I have the Sena SMH10 also, works well with my I-Phone, haven't taken it on any long rides yet; so test is on going.
I have had that for about two years now. No issues. I did take a 600 mile ride once and it was fine the whole way. I have dialed in to work conference calls and taken calls at 80+ mph without anyone asking about the noise. Before my wife got pregnant, we would ride together and it was great for communicating.

I also have done work conference calls with the Sena20 model. For phone calls works great, no one even knows I'm on a motorcycle. For GPS didn't work well, cut out from google maps and apple maps. But it does work really well with my Navigon app. Also really crappy on intercom mode.

I have the sena 20s. Have been using it for two seasons and love it. I operate it with the iPhone 6s. No problems. Does so much. Nah, blue tooth Phone calls Intercoms music. Siri. All at a touch of button. Hope I'm not too late lol

Our little riding group HAD Scala G9's for 4 years, recently upgraded to new Packtalk, they both have a range of over 1 mile in a straight line, approx 3 miles max, (see instructions if of interest)
We have no communication drop outs between sat nav or other components paired with the units.
Also, on each unit you can adjust the volumes separately for announcements & radio etc..
The battery life on the G9's (G4's same) is approx 7hrs, on the newer Packtalk it's at least 11hrs, never had one go flat yet so maximum is untested.
We sold our old units (perfectly usable) on a forum to a local fellow biker & after a year he's still happy..

Hope that helps..

I've had a Sccala Q1 for over 2 years and it's crap! Probably serves me right for buying the cheap one... ;)

Never got it to reliably connect to both my Garmin Zumo 590 satnav AND my iPhone 5S (and now iPhone SE). Also microphone volume very low and I've never found a way to adjust it.Thought that was it, right? Nope! The bluetooth connection between the iPhone and Q1 frequently disconnects and then after a few seconds reconnects again.... :( Has done it with both iPhones and various IOS versions. Q1 firmware flashed to latest version too...

Can't google an answer to the issues, plus the manual and Garmin web site is pants....

Apart from that the Q1 is fine! LOL

Yeah I should have returned the unit but somehow I never got around to do it and always thought I'd figure out the issue answers...
