I'm sitting here looking at the handlebars and I'm not sure there's room for my Garmin...a place where it won't block the instruments. Lemme know if anybody fits one.

Excuse the messy garage, but here are some pics of my Garmin zumo XT2 on a BikePedR mount with moto pumps lock. No interference with my gauges or tank bag.

(If you've noticed that the head on pic looks odd it is because I blacked out the reflection on the face of the GPS unit of me taking the photo.)

Ohhh but there is a problem, right? Cant tighten it as this little knob cant rotate freely, as you can see. What to do, what to do??

I have ROX risers 2" but i believe it would work just as well without them.

Here is the link to the RAM Stem Mount

And here are the ROX risers, 2" for 1 1/8" bars

HI 25PSi, really like the look of this mount, especially as it's mounted below the clocks, rather than obscuring them.

Has is it worked in practice? have you ridden with it in this configuration much? As well as buying the three RAM Mount components I would need a nut to replace the over sized one provided?

I finished installing a Garmin Zumo 395 GPS on my bike. I went with the 395 for a few reasons, 1. I have one on my RT and like continuity. 2. It syncs to the Garmin TPMS caps, the newer models do not, it will also sync to my Garmin VIRB camera.

I spliced the Garmin power cord, removing the fuse, onto the BMW repair plug by soldiering the wires and using heat shrink and a high quality electrical tape.

I removed the fuel tank and installed the power cable on to the plug on the left side under the tank, tucking the excess cable safely away.

I used a M6 RAM Ball mount on the handle bar top clamp with a short RAM Arm aiming toward the left grip.

GPS is working great, the TPMS is working great.

The only issue that I ran into was that after I reinstalled the tank. I was getting a LOW FUEL light on the dash. I had also removed the charcoal canister system and thought that removing the electrical valve may have caused a fault. I connected my GS911 and it did show a fault due to the valve being disconnected. I reconnected the valve to the harness and cleared the fault using the GS911 however the LOW FUEL light did not go away. I decided to disconnect the battery for 1 minute. Upon reconnecting the ground to the battery the LOW FUEL light went off. I then re-removed the valve and all is well.

I replaced my garmin with CHIGEE aio5 - CarPlay use google maps or Waze have Blind spot detection, TPMs front rear at cameras. I fitted it between my motogadget and rear of my rizoma wind detector initially it was recessed but I brought it a bit more to access the buttons

Each to their own. I know that some rely on GPS to know when dinner is on the table or so they can find a particular place. I've used a GPS over the years quite a lot particularly on my GG's but some of my greatest experiences on a motorbike have started when I stopped a local or stranger and asked for directions or info.

He'll it's even started up a friendship or two. Must be something about the traveller in need ... And then.

Try it. You meet some amazing people and we need to stretch our legs every so often

I use a GPS on my 9T regularly because I have a sense of direction like an ear of corn.Mounted my Zumo on left side of handlebar so as not to block instruments.
GPS gives me the opportunity to take a road less traveled and if I end up in BFE I can hit the home button. Mount is a RAM product. View attachment 8986
Me too! I need a GPS in a supermarket I'm so bad. A GPS is not a luxury for me but a necessity. Glad that I'm not alone!

Yep, it has the waterproof cap. I'm not a rain rider normally (until I'm caught in it). Its a dual USB, kinda wish I had gotten the single USB cause of the bulk. Because of the length of USB cords (including Apple's), I could probably even tie it below the tank, but I would rather have it up by the steering head. I will probably only tie it on with some black velcro cable ties I have. (may not like my solution, we'll see). I may do a more permanent solution, using the GPS plug later, and will probably zip tie that cable. When done, I'll take a pic. Probably this weekend. In the meantime, this is the adapter I purchased. BTW, I tested it. Works perfectly. And, the plug seats tightly in the accessory socket.

Here's the electrical connection I made, to power my iPhone and/or my Nuvi (since I already have them) Purchased a Powerlet to dual USB hub. I thought the hub was too large, and wished I had purchased the single instead of dual. However, big surprise. The dual hub happens to friction push fit in that little square opening below the gauges, on the steering head. Who knew? Just left a touch of slack so I can pull out and push in the hub. This setup works perfectly, however I have a few problems with it. First, I don't like the red-black wires. Second, I don't like the powerlet plug hanging loose with exposed contacts, when not plugged in. Even though its tucked in. Everything is neat and tidy, and tied up under the tank, but it doesn't satisfy me. I will eventually be changing this to be more permanent, with a USB hub up by the handlebars, all black wires, and connected to the GPS accessory plug, as opposed to the powerlet accessory socket.

Finally had the time to install the ram ball mount, on the top left of the 4 handlebar bolts. Using the "spider" holder, for both my old Nuvi and an iPhone, whichever I choose. I don't use my GPS much, like you distance riders. I use it to find unfamiliar routes in the "country" to stay away from the traffic, on my weekend rides. Set up new routes on Garmin Basecamp, then download the route to my old Garmin Nuvi. Might go with a motorcycle specific Garmin in the future, that I can use in my car too. No hurry as long as this one works. (don't try to ride in the rain anyway). I can't believe how hard it was to find a 12 inch USB to Mini male cable, but finally did.

All good points, but the great thing about having a SatNav on the 9T is that I don't use it when I want to go and get "lost" down some country roads, but then when its time to go home, I turn on the SatNav and tell it to get me outa here! :)

SatNav IMO certainly has it's place on a motorbike, and is excellent for touring or simply digging yourself out of a hole when you haven't a clue where you are. Cool for avoiding some speed traps too.... ;) Oh and finding the nearest petrol station when your fuel light comes on...

Upgraded from my old BMW Nav 5 to a new Garmin Zumo XT and swapped out the cradle today.

Wired in a spare BMW sat nav plug and all good to go. Zumo XT is certainly an improvement over the old Nav 5 :)

bonjour Paul, just a question, were did you buy the support for Garmin XT, it's seems to be perfect...thank you for your replay
