I'm sitting here looking at the handlebars and I'm not sure there's room for my Garmin...a place where it won't block the instruments. Lemme know if anybody fits one.

This is what's pictured on my bike, mounts into the top clamp. About as minimal as you can get and works great if you don't mind your mount in the center of the bike.

This is the mount I use for an iPhone:

And the arm I use, though you could get longer ones depending on what and how you're mounting on there.

I use a GPS on my 9T regularly because I have a sense of direction like an ear of corn.Mounted my Zumo on left side of handlebar so as not to block instruments.
GPS gives me the opportunity to take a road less traveled and if I end up in BFE I can hit the home button. Mount is a RAM product. View attachment 8986
Me too! I need a GPS in a supermarket I'm so bad. A GPS is not a luxury for me but a necessity. Glad that I'm not alone!

That OEM GPS plug is just a hot and a ground, two wires, no other "info" in it.

You could get one of these Universal GPS Power Connector, BMW CAN-BUS System - Touratech-USA or one of these AMP superseal 2 pole connector set - Touratech-USA to wire in that USB charger I posted.
In the product description Touratech says that having a 5v inline voltage regulator could drain the battery, on the NineT I am certain that none of the accessory circuits stay live after a few minutes with the ignition turned off. No worries there, and I would avoid a cigarette lighter plug or adaptor, they are large and bulky, plus not waterproof and can vibrate apart. BTDT many years ago. :).

I'm thinking these two pieces should solve the issue. No cutting of original wires, elegantly simple. If I decide to upgrade to one of the new Garmins, still have the plug. But, as we have discussed, the iPhone is very nearly as good these days, with Garmin Onboard maps. Hmmmm, if I got a second, taller stalk, I could even take movies LOL.

Hi
Have you tried well I was gonna say your i-phone but maybe all smartphones do the same.
But to get back to the iPhone, I started to use the new Google maps app and it has voice so now even in a car I turn on the google maps and then I just put the iphone in my pocket and it will speak to you and give you directions and the results are great for me. I use it for business every day.
But what i did for the 9T ride i got a ear plug and stuck it in the iphone and back into my pocket and it works great. Now if I need a gps i just program google maps on the phone
and use an ear peice to listen. And if I know where I am going well the phone stays in the pocket anyway so no big deal.

Put a RAM mount on mine in one of the configurations. Another one still in works but here is what i have thus far:
I really like that setup, but as adjustable as it is, I'm a bit concerned about an iPhone or non motorcycle garmin vibrating or jostling out of that holder. Since I don't have one yet (which is exactly the setup I am looking at), may be totally wrong. Of course, some velcro on the back might allay my concern.

Ohhh but there is a problem, right? Cant tighten it as this little knob cant rotate freely, as you can see. What to do, what to do??

I have ROX risers 2" but i believe it would work just as well without them.

Here is the link to the RAM Stem Mount

And here are the ROX risers, 2" for 1 1/8" bars

HI 25PSi, really like the look of this mount, especially as it's mounted below the clocks, rather than obscuring them.

Has is it worked in practice? have you ridden with it in this configuration much? As well as buying the three RAM Mount components I would need a nut to replace the over sized one provided?

Vox, you might also check this out, as it eliminates you having to use a 12v cigarette adapter. You can just use your Nuvi's USB cord. A bit cleaner. I have their dual socket. I may end up going to more of a direct wired USB adapter (using some tips that Lost gave me), but if you are going to use the built in socket, this is the cleanest I have found.

Yep, go here and look around for exactly what you want. Directing you to one, but there are several. If it was me however, I would go to a female USB connector, as most if not all devices that are micro or mini USB have a cable end with a male standard USB plug. That gives you options to connect different devices if you want. But, you asked, and you shall receive LOL.
