Also forgot to mention that the ohlins deals with ripples/continuous small bumps really well, there's a bunch of that in intersections around here and it always sketched me out leaning the bike over through that stuff, not so anymore.
 
Started tweaking. Took 4 clicks of compression out of the forks, left rebound where it was(felt like it needed a bit more), and took 3 clicks out of the shock as well, rebound left alone. Feels much better over bumps, I think the recommended setting from Ohlins are more track-oriented.
 
So, there's high and low speed compression for both the fork and the shock?

If so, you should be able to make it super squishy for comfort cruising... I so want this setup. Want it so bad.
I don't believe it's got high and low speed, just 1 setting for both. Still can make it squishy though, it's amazing what a few clicks one way or another does to the feel of the bike. And there are like 20 clicks from open to close.
 
Emailed and spoke to Dan Kyle today (he was working hard on a Sunday). Great guy. I ordered the suspension and will send in my forks to have the Ohlins kit installed. Because I am on the East Coast, he's having me go directly to Ohlins USA in NC to save time on shipping. It is a lot of money, but I figure it is the single best thing I can do to the bike for long-ride comfortability and handling. I've decided to have a go myself at removal of the OEM forks and suspension and installation of the new. I mean, what could go wrong, right...

As an aside, had my 6000 mile service yesterday. All looked good under the hood. Changed tires to Power Pilot 3s. Ran them in for 150 miles yesterday and have to agree with everyone else whose recommended them: a world of difference.

definitely one of the first things on my list when my bike arrives. i've had too many-a-highside (or close to it) on metzelers to be content keeping them on there.
 
Will there be a difference between only changing the front fork internals for the Ohlins ones compared to the whole Ohlins front setup?
There's a difference but the cartridges are still sweet on their own. Can't go wrong either way.
Ah ok. But then in your opinion, are the cartridges a step up enough compared to stock ones to justify the investment?
Am having a hard time deciding which system to go to...

They are installed in the ohlins forks, they're pretty awesome based on what I'm feeling. Based on what a couple people reported on here the cartridges alone make a big improvement. Just make sure Ohlins fluid gets used and they are sprung for your weight. I went for the forks because they're sweet and I wanted the whole package, but you don't need them. The guts of a fork are the engine, tubes are the chassis. The stock tubes are good, the ohlins are great. Take your pick, can't go wrong either way.

Just be sure you mess around with the settings, any review of the ride has to include the settings being used since you can make them rock hard or supple with a couple twists of the wrist. I personally think the factory settings are too stiff for the road.

Am also wandering: there is a little plastic protection/fender on the original rear shock (protecting the bottom of the shock from projections out of the rear tyre), can it be kept when installing the Ohlins one?

Nope. I just periodically clean mine, after watching what the shock on my dirtbike has been through I'm not too worried about this one, they are tough.
