if you read the whole thread, that is why i started this...to have a place to easily access my registration
I keep my registration in a very small fold wallet along with my insurance cards. I just tuck that and my phone in the inside pocket of my riding jacket. Easy to get to if I get stopped.

I like the "special key" - pictured above - that comes with my bike. It isn't hard to use and it provides a measure of security.

The tool never came with my bike! I had forgotten all about it to be honest, just used the tools I already had to remove the pillion seat or seat hump...

I did point out to the Dealer that the seat tool was missing a few days after I picked up the bike. The Manager promised to get one ordered for me. Better hassle my dealer about it again! ;)

the tool did come from my bike but if I am not aligned properly while I am trying to unscrew it upside down its hard to turn it and so it may get stripped so
I too just went and bought a nice torque tool set and I put that half a key away somewhere.
Dave, hit the dealer for a pair of mirrors or something else instead :)

rear seat bolt key size

I have the wunderlich tail tidy installed from my dealer and unforunately the tail reflective panel interfere with the factory little key. So I can not unscrew the rear tail screw if I want to remove the hump and install the rear seat.. :| Does anyone know what size is that torx key so that i can buy a longer one (in L shape)? Apparently it is a small one, smaller than a T10

Yes I received mine as well a couple of weeks back. Happy with it and it does make seat removal a doddle.

Rizoma undertail / club s kit and passenger seat bolt

My bike is getting some work done at my dealer including the tail tidy, which includes the Rizoma club S signals and tail tidy.

My dealer explained that my tool-less passenger seat bolt will not be useable with the rizoma kit. Additionally, I was told that the Rizoma kit affixes the bolt somehow to the kit so that you can't replace it (this is curious)...

For those of you with the Rizoma tail tidy, what type of bolt (and bolt head) is used and what are you using to remove....?

thanks

I had one of these knocking about so threw away the end and screwed it in. By adding a rubber washer I made sure it could get nice and tight. Much easier to screw in over the stock bolt and sits nice and flush under the tail. Haven't ridden any great distance to make sure it doesn't come loose but can't see it being any worse that a thumb screw!

Tool-less removal is not straightforward with Rixoma Fox kit

My dealer explained that my tool-less passenger seat bolt will not be useable with the rizoma kit.
That is correct, only the original seat bolt can be used.
Also you won't be able to use the OEM torx 'key' to unscrew the bolt, only a standard torx bit will fit.

Additionally, I was told that the Rizoma kit affixes the bolt somehow to the kit so that you can't replace it (this is curious)...
The Rizoma tailtidy doesn't affix the bolt to the kit, what it actually does is cover the area so well that the bolt is trapped in position and cannot be removed.
This actually works well as you access the bolt head through a slot in the tailtidy, it is always right there in the same position, so no fumbling around to get the torx bit into the bolt head.

Should you need to replace the bolt, you would have to remove the tailtidy first.

The above information is if you mount the Rizoma Fox tailtidy kit as per the factory instructions.
If you wanted to custom mount the tailtidy closer to the rear seat/hump you would have to drill a new access hole.

Thank you kindly for this information.

I did notice that the fox tail protruded a bit from the seat for my liking. Is there a thread on the subject of bringing the tail closer to the rear edge of the passenger seat? What needs to be drilled; the fox assembly?

There are already many solutions shown here, but still, when the bolt works loose, it's likely that the passenger seat will fly away. I do not like this concept.
I have a stud placed in my seat and secure the seat with a nurled nut.
In the event that the nut had to come off, the seat can not simply come off, due to the presence of the stud.
I used the same thing of Midnight9T, but I threw away the other end >:), I only use the soft self-locking nut.

Okay, so now with the Rizoma Fox undertail kit, I have a very clean set-up and the passenger seat bolt stays in place when the seat is freed from the fastener.

Question: anyone know of a short arm T30 Torx key wrench that i can keep with my keys? need it to be slim, short, and light.

I'm sure there are variations of torx keys out there but thought i'd ask the gang because there's always someone who knows of a killer solution.....

thanks in advance.

I use some white plumbers tape on the threads and it never backs out. I also make sure the leather strap is always over the passenger seat; just in case

Im sure that handle is much easier than the Key wrench thats supplied, but I just keep the key on the same ring as the Bike key........
The Instruction manual talks about a key wrench that is supplied, but I do not
appear to have been given one.
Unless it is stored under the seat as I have not lifted it yet :>)
Only discovered this fact when I started going thru the Instruction Manual.
Is this a USA "not issued"item like the dwA remote?
If possible, would like to know before I approach the Dealer.

Thanks,
Mike - West Palm Beach

The key wrench is what this entire thread is about avoiding because it's not a working solution. Why don't you just take a few minutes and read it and you'll know everything ad nauseam

Did as you suggested. Thanks.
The few minutes was a little longer.
Mention is made of having to hassle the Dealers to get the tool from them.
Will probably use an alternate system before much time passes.
Seems there are several options.

Bit disappointing from BMW to be given a partially useless tool.
Or not given, in my case,

Mike.

You don't really need the tool - and probably don't even want it. Just remove the screw with a standard torx driver and replace with one of the thumbscrews suggested in this thread.
