Is it a SAE plug? I noticed this also on my second hand Scrambler, there was a SAE plug ziptied to the right side of frame. I bought an OptiMate 3 which has this plug as standard connection so it was just ... plug and play. BTW it even has an extra SAE plug + cable in the box similar like that was installed on my Scrambler so even if you do not have that type of plug it is easy to install a permanent solution.

Before connecting any battery charger/tender product to an RNineT - I'd suggest that you check that the product is compatible with the CANBUS electrical wiring system - otherwise you risk doing some expensive damage. I firstly bought an Optimate4 for the RNineT (2020 model) and then had to upgrade to a BMW brand charger/tender for my 2024 model R12 NineT.

After your post I also checked (because all seems to be working fine but wanted to make sure) and come across this post, I have exactly the same setup so all is seemingly well.

Also, will it only interfere with the CANBUS if it is connected through the DIN plug? Because when hooking it up directly to the + & - as described above I cannot see how that would be able to interfere with the electronics of the bike. But perhaps things have changed and they do are of influence on each other.

22 pure here. On my bike I had trouble grounding. Both with pigtails and a batteryMINDer 12248 and with a jump starter clamps trying to ground on the bolts or any metal frame under seat resulted in incorrect high resistances where the charger would go into float mode early or my "smart" jump starter would fail to supply voltage.

It would work intermittently. My charger (which I've used for many years on multiple vehicles) would sometimes throw a faulty battery error or stop charging at 12.7v. the battery, while weak, can start the bike so I don't think it's a failed cell.

Using the little ground terminal sticking out of the right cylinder resolves the issue the immediately on the jump starter.

Moral of the story is that for the rninet, I think you should to connect pig tails to the pain in the ass under the Tank battery terminals to get a solid ground which will allow your chargers and jump packs to function correctly with accurate ohm resistance. Or use the ground bolt on the right cylinder.

I had issues with grounding mine as well, then resolved it with an optimate canbus charger. So far so good. No issues( that I know) of with electronics and as far as I can see it is maintaining the battery. been two three years no, keeping fingers crossed.

Gotcha, I've since replaced the battery with a lifepo4 and put pigtails on the terminals right on the battery. It cranks magnificently. I've also disconnected the alarm completely so I think I should be much better off.

I do not understand how the battery on this bike can be engineered to be so hard to reach. It's barbaric.
