I picked up a BMW charger when I got my 9T, tried the aux port and it didn't work with that charger. I ended up running the pigtail from the battery. Wonder why that charger didn't work?
Sounds like you picked up the wrong BMW charger, one for the older bikes. Exchange it for the new one. (making some simple assumptions here). Has to be a canbus enabled charger. Any decent other charger will work with the pigtail. (underlined "decent")

I have one of the original BMW CANbus chargers (the light gray one with two lights on the bottom and four lights on the top). When I got my new R nineT yesterday afternoon I plugged the charger into the wall and plugged it into the port. The charger immediately recognized the bike - no turning on and turning off the ignition. When I went to bed last night the bike was not quite fully charged. This morning the bike is 100% charged. It was easy.

:D

I've finally got my Optimate 4 with CAN-bus sorted!

I had to buy a new Optimate as I only had a 3 and a 3+ (I'm now a two bike, three Optimate family!), then the CAN-bus connector, then as the CAN-bus connector had the old TM connector and my new Optimate 4 had the newer SAE connector, I had to buy a TM to SAE adapter.

Finally there and with a quick change of the program, it is now happily charging through the port. Much easier than taking the hump and seat off every time I want to ride!

good point... I thought that as a possibility. So much for the parts guy giving me the right charger eh? I have ignorance on my side hopefully since this is my first BMW and first street bike in 8 plus years. Anyway, thanks for the heads up, I may exchange it, but at least I have it working with the pigtail.

My Deltran works fine; connected like Slowdad but negative lead connected to the other fastener on the left side just because it is closer to the location of the connector. Eventually, I will connect direct to the battery but have only had the bike for a week.

Help--I have the 2015 model and seat removal is making me feel incompetent. Was there a change in the 2014 and 2015 seat removal process. Doesn't appear to be a simple single bolt removal.

Anyone else having the issue....or am I really incompetent?

Many people, including myself, avoid this issue and purchase the relatively inexpensive Deltran Battery Tender charger. Deltran includes the necessary direct to battery 'pigtail' to plug in the charger with the standard SAE plug.

I have a four bank Deltran charger; two dedicated to Harleys, one dedicated to the 9T and one spare. Connected the positive lead to the positive battery connection under the 9T seat and the negative lead under that bar that the OEM battery terminals are connected to. The Deltran will not work if the positive and negative leads are connected directly to the to battery posts under the seat. The negative lead needs to be connected to ground.

Seat removal is the same on the 2015. Remove one bolt for the passenger seat, then pull up the lever behind the front seat and pull the seat backward. The front seat will slide out once you unlock it with the lever.

I use the BMW charger that plugs into the power outlet. (I've had it for years.) Everything is automatic. You don't have to turn the bike on to recognize the charger. (BMW used to call that a "handshake". Bike recognizes charger/charger recognizes bike.)

Sorry, I haven't read the replies to my posting where I said you have to turn on the ignition for the R9T to recognize the CTEK charger earlier.

It appears that some forum members have wrongly assumed that I've also implied leaving the ignition on during charging as well. That's not true.

Once the two ends handshake (i.e. R9T recognizes the CTEK charger), you can turn the ignition off.

Thought I should clarify that for the record. :)
